Optimal control for power generating kites

2007 European Control Conference (ECC), 2007
In this paper we present optimization studies for kites that produce wind energy by periodically pulling a generator on the ground while flying fast in a crosswind direction. We derive a model for a single kite and formulate an optimal control problem with periodic boundary conditions and free cycle duration. The objective function is the average power

Power generator control by variable structure control theory

2006
In order to enhance the dynamic performance of power generators we propose a new control algorithm based on the variable structure control theory. The algorithm considered here is to control both governor's angle and excitation voltage of the magnetic field coil of a synchronous generator by switching the control parameters according to the position of

Generalized Direct Power Control for multilevel VSR converters

Eurocon 2013, 2013
A fast and effective control of three-phase PWM-Rectifiers is presented in the paper, with reference to multilevel converter topologies. The presented strategy con be considered a “Direct Power Control” (DPC) because it is devoted to the direct control of active and reactive line-power, using a technique very similar to the well-known “Direct torque ...

Constrained Control for Power Generation Plant

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1995
Abstract This paper is concerned with the design of advanced algorithms to optimally implement a desired set point change whilst satisfying operational variable constraints in large power plants. In common with many process control applications it is not possible to move from one power plant operating condition to another instantaneously. Previous ad-

Robust Sliding mode control based wind power generation

i-manager's Journal on Electrical Engineering, 2009
With the growing needs of energy, the use of renewable resources to serve the purpose has been increased. Our paper is just a light into the solution to the crisis that is looming over us. We have designed a controller in the direction of improving the efficiency of Wind energy systems. The approach is based on a sliding mode control methodology, i.e ...

Nonlinear Optimal Control for Steam-Turbine Power Generation

2018 5th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA), 2018
The dynamic model of the power unit undergoes approximate linearization around a temporary operating point (equilibrium) which is recomputed at each iteration of the control method. The linearization procedure is based on first-order Taylor-series expansion and on the computation of the Jacobian matrices of the joint turbine and generator's model.

Dump power control techniques for standalone hybrid wind/solar power generation control

2012 International Conference on Emerging Trends in Science, Engineering and Technology (INCOSET), 2012
With ever increasing concern on energy issues, the development of renewable energy sources is becoming more and more attractive. In the past few year the photovoltaic and wind power generation have been increased significantly. Both energy flow and operation characteristics of stand-alone wind / PV hybrid power systems are analyzed to achieve its ...

Standalone hybrid power generation - control technique for dump power

2016 International Conference on Energy Efficient Technologies for Sustainability (ICEETS), 2016
With increasing load demand and global warming, an environment-friendly type of energy solutions to preserve the earth for the future generations has become a prerequisite. Other than hydro power, many such energy sources like wind and solar energy is highly potential sources to meet our energy demands.

LQR power control of wind generator

2018 Cybernetics & Informatics (K&I), 2018
In this paper a system for power control of wind turbine generator based on LQR controller is designed. Two-mass drive train model is considered. The linear model with parametric uncertainty is obtained. This model describes the plant dynamics in whole working range.
