Preventive maintenance scheduling of power generating units
Annals of Operations Research, 1993The problem of preventive maintenance planning of electric power generating units can be formulated as a mixed-integer linear optimization problem. An extension of the model is presented to deal with more realistic assumptions about utilization of power resource. We propose a heuristic iterative exchange procedure to solve these problems.

A MATLAB-based power generator maintenance scheduler
IEEE PES Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2004., 2005This paper presents a PC-based Windows application software package for production of optimised maintenance schedules, performing economic dispatch, predicting actual dates for long-term maintenance scheduling and querying the current status of a generating unit from data files.

Optimal Generation Scheduling of Hydrothermal Power Systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1980In this paper decomposition and coordination techniques are applied to minimize the operation al cost of hydrothermal power systems. Through this for muXation large systems are dealt with by a more general and precise model that includes thermal operation costs and hydroelectric power generation as nonlinear functions, water head variations, stochastic

An expert system for power generation scheduling
Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications, 2003A prototype of an expert system is presented which assists planners in making power generation schedules. The system takes advantage of knowledge engineering to overcome some drawbacks of conventional methods. Since the scheduling problem is too large to solve, it is divided into several subscheduling problems.

Environment-aware power generation scheduling in smart grids
2015 IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm), 2015Air pollutants generated by thermal power plants have been a major source of environmental and health hazard. This paper develops an optimal mechanism for generation scheduling of a hybrid power system consisting of conventional and renewable power plants while maintaining the air-pollutant concentration below a targeted level.

Generation Scheduling in a system with Wind Power
2005 IEEE/PES Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific, 2005In recent years, environmental concerns have significantly increased the pressure for cleaner and more efficient generation of electricity. In the UK and some European countries, there are requirements to produce a certain amount of electricity from renewable generation. Wind power is expected to contribute significantly to the renewable energy targets

Scheduling of generation in deficit power systems
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1988Scheduling studies are carried out on a deficit hydrothermal power system. The problem is formulated as one of minimizing the severity of power cuts. The maintenance schedule of the thermal plants is selected by minimizing its deviation from an ideal, unrealizable schedule.

Computationally Tractable Reserve Scheduling for AC Power Systems with Wind Power Generation
2018This work presents a solution method for a day-ahead stochastic reserve scheduling (RS) problem using an AC optimal power flow (OPF) formulation. Such a problem is known to be non-convex and in general hard to solve. Existing approaches follow either linearized (DC) power flow or iterative approximation of nonlinearities, which may lead to either ...

Benchmarks for maintenance scheduling problems in power generation
2012 IEEE Congress on Evolutionary Computation, 2012We present a test suite of 23 instances of a preventive maintenance scheduling problem from the power industry, which we also make available online. The formulation of the problem and the suite are derived from real-world data collected recently. A first study of the landscape characteristics of these problem instances based on three different types of
