An Application of Lagrangian Relaxation to Scheduling in Power-Generation Systems

Operations Research, 1977
Two major decisions are made when scheduling the operations of a fossil-fuel power-generating system over a short time horizon. The “unit commitment” decision indicates what generating units are to be in use at each point in time. The “economic dispatch” decision is the allocation of system demand among the generating units in operation at any point ...

Power generator scheduling by dynamic programming

European Journal of Operational Research, 1977
Abstract Dynamic programming is applied to the problem of determining an optimal short-run schedule for a series of power generating units to meet a time varying system load. Typical scheduling procedures include a priority ordering constraint which requires that units be committed to or removed from power production in a fixed order.

Generation Scheduling in a system with Wind Power

2005 IEEE/PES Transmission & Distribution Conference & Exposition: Asia and Pacific, 2005
In recent years, environmental concerns have significantly increased the pressure for cleaner and more efficient generation of electricity. In the UK and some European countries, there are requirements to produce a certain amount of electricity from renewable generation. Wind power is expected to contribute significantly to the renewable energy targets

Power generation scheduling by neural network

International Journal of Systems Science, 1992
A new method for solving a power generation scheduling problem in an electric power system is presented. The objective is to determine the hourly start-up/ shut-down schedules of all generators so that forecasted hourly power demands per day may be met and total operating costs, the sum of setup and fuel costs for a given day, may be minimized.

An expert system for power generation scheduling

Proceedings of the International Workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Industrial Applications, 2003
A prototype of an expert system is presented which assists planners in making power generation schedules. The system takes advantage of knowledge engineering to overcome some drawbacks of conventional methods. Since the scheduling problem is too large to solve, it is divided into several subscheduling problems.

Environment-aware power generation scheduling in smart grids

2015 IEEE International Conference on Smart Grid Communications (SmartGridComm), 2015
Air pollutants generated by thermal power plants have been a major source of environmental and health hazard. This paper develops an optimal mechanism for generation scheduling of a hybrid power system consisting of conventional and renewable power plants while maintaining the air-pollutant concentration below a targeted level.

Two-stage stochastic power generation scheduling in microgrids

2014 IEEE 27th Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE), 2014
In this study, the power scheduling problem in μ-grids is investigated taking the uncertainties in power demand and wind power into account. The problem is formulated as a stochastic mixed-integer linear optimization problem with the objective being minimizing the total μ-grid cost.

Economic Scheduling of Generators in an Interconnected power system

2020 6th International Conference on Advanced Computing and Communication Systems (ICACCS), 2020
In a typical power generating system cost optimization performs crucial act to deliver power to the consumers at lowest possible price. This cost optimization is achieved by proper scheduling of all available generators based on their fuel costs. This means that the real & reactive power flows of all units, allowed changing within their acceptable ...
