Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

A graph neural network enhanced decision transformer for efficient optimization in dynamic smart charging environments

open access: yesEnergy and AI
Electric-vehicle smart charging requires quick decision-making under uncertainty while enforcing strict electricity grid and user requirements. Mathematical optimization becomes too slow at scale, while online reinforcement learning struggles with sparse

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Selection of an IGCT for multilevel converters dedicated to high‐voltage direct current grid connection of offshore wind‐farms

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, 2021
Grid connection of remote offshore wind‐parks uses high‐voltage direct current technology and in order to reduce costs and losses and maximise profitability, semiconductor power losses must be minimised.

Functional Connectivity Linked to Cognitive Recovery After Minor Stroke

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Patients with minor stroke exhibit slowed processing speed and generalized alterations in functional connectivity involving frontoparietal cortex (FPC). The pattern of connectivity evolves over time. In this study, we examine the relationship of functional connectivity patterns to cognitive performance, to determine ...

Assessing Oscillatory Stability With Dominant Grid-Forming Power Systems for Active Power Imbalances

open access: yesIEEE Open Access Journal of Power and Energy
As the integration of renewable energy accelerates, ensuring power system stability becomes increasingly critical. This research utilized a Root Mean Square (RMS) synthetic model of the future 380 kV Dutch power system towards 2050 to analyze its ...

Community-Owned Solar Power and Micro Grids for New York State [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
This policy brief discusses how community owned solar projects and micro grids offer a sustainable alternative to reliance on the large power grid and polluting fossil fuels. It explains how micro grids work and looks at how they are connected to and can

Superfluid turbulence from quantum Kelvin wave to classical Kolmogorov cascades

open access: yes, 2009
A novel unitary quantum lattice gas algorithm is used to simulate quantum turbulence of a BEC described by the Gross-Pitaevskii equation on grids up to 5760^3.

Predicting Epileptogenic Tubers in Patients With Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Using a Fusion Model Integrating Lesion Network Mapping and Machine Learning

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Accurate localization of epileptogenic tubers (ETs) in patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is essential but challenging, as these tubers lack distinct pathological or genetic markers to differentiate them from other cortical tubers.

Bounds and Estimates for the Response to Correlated Fluctuations in Asymmetric Complex Networks

open access: yes, 2021
We study the spreading of correlated fluctuations through networks with asymmetric and weighted coupling. This can be found in many real systems such as renewable power grids. These systems have so far only been studied numerically.
