Modular approach to active power-line harmonic filtering

PESC 98 Record. 29th Annual IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference (Cat. No.98CH36196), 2002
Active power-line filtering is conventionally performed by injecting equal-but-opposite of the distortion into the line. The power converter used for this purpose is rated based on the magnitude of the distortion current and operated at the switching frequency dictated by the desired filter bandwidth.

Power System Voltage Harmonic Identification Using Kalman Filter

2006 12th International Power Electronics and Motion Control Conference, 2006
The intensive use of power converters and other non-linear loads in industry and by consumers in general, has produced an increasing deterioration of the power systems voltage waveforms. The presence of harmonic distortion in power lines results in greater power losses in the distribution systems, interference problem in communication systems and ...

Harmonic Computation Technique Suitable for Active Power Filters

IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2007
The design and implementation of a novel method for reference generation that is applied to active power Alters (APFs) is introduced in this paper. The proposed reference generation performs harmonic detection based on the Goertzel algorithm. The method computes both the module I1 and the phase phi of the signal, with minimum computation overhead. This

Harmonics cancellation using SVPWM shunt active power filter

COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 2007
PurposeThe paper aims to explain the investigation of the space vector modulation (SVPWM), in shunt active powers filters (APFs) field, for controlling the generated current.Design/methodology/approachWith the inclusion of the SVPWM control technique, the proposed topology of the two‐level shunt active power filter (APF), based on IGBTs, besides its ...

Trends in power factor correction with harmonic filtering

Industry Applications Society 38th Annual Petroleum and Chemical Industry Conference, 1993
The author presents an overview of the harmonics problem and examines how utilities are beginning to interpret and apply harmonics standards. He discusses IEEE Standard 519-1981 and addresses the concern that some utility standards go well beyond the IEEE guidelines to the point of being unreasonable. >

Harmonic Mitigation in Power Distribution Networks Using Active Power Filters

Power quality has emerged as a critical issue in modern power distribution networks due to the widespread use of non-linear loads such as rectifiers, inverters, and switching power supplies. These devices introduce current and voltage harmonics, which lead to increased power losses, equipment overheating, and reduced efficiency of electrical systems ...

Power Harmonic Estimation by Using Recursive Filtering Algorithm

2021
This research paper presents an optimal method for tracking the harmonics in the power system voltage or current waveforms. A robust recursive filtering algorithm that is, the Kalman filter is used to estimate the harmonics of a distorted measurement signal. The Kalman filter performance depends on the noise covariance matrices Q and R.
