Damping Oscillations in Electrical Power Systems: a Dissipativity Approach
2007 IEEE International Conference on Control Applications, 2007In this paper a control synthesis approach is presented for supplementary controllers in electrical power systems, with the goal of damping low frequency oscillations. The approach is based on restricted dissipativity and the generalized Kalman-Yakubovich-Popov (GKYP) lemma. The proposed synthesis approach is used to design a "power system stabilizer".

Utilizing HVDC to damp power oscillations
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1993Damping of slow oscillations with active and reactive power modulation of high-voltage direct current (HVDC)-links is analyzed with the aim of gaining a physical insight into the problem. The analysis shows that active power modulation is efficient when applied a short mass-scaled electrical distance from one of the swinging machines, and reactive ...

Optimal power oscillation damping with SSSC
TENCON 2008 - 2008 IEEE Region 10 Conference, 2008This paper presents an approach for optimal power oscillation damping with SSSC. A two area power network has been modeled with SSSC in the linearized framework. An attempt has been made to design optimal power oscillation damping (OPOD) controller utilizing the model with eigen value assignment technique with a level of relative stability.

Damping of power system oscillations with optimal regulator
International Aegean Conference on Electrical Machines and Power Electronics and Electromotion, Joint Conference, 2011This paper present a study of the small signal stability applied to an electric power system, with the consideration of the Power System Stabilizer and using the theory of the optimal control. A new theory based on pole-placement using optimal regulators is proposed for damping electromechanical oscillation, under small signal.

Local Sliding Control for Damping Interarea Power Oscillations
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2004In this paper, a sliding control (SC) algorithm design is considered for damping local power oscillations in a multiple area power transmission system. The control algorithm utilizes static Var compensators (SVC) to supply reactive power to the transmission system to stabilize the system in the event of faults.

Damping of power system oscillations using STATCOM
2015 2nd International Conference on Electrical Information and Communication Technologies (EICT), 2015This paper investigates the damping performance of power systems through eigenvalue analysis. The analysis is conducted on an IEEE 14-bus test system. The maximum loading limits of the load buses are determined using continuation power flow method and a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is installed as an objective to increase the system ...

Passivity based damping of power system oscillations
Proceedings of 35th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control, 2002The aim of the paper is to apply the passification and speed-gradient methods to the problem of transient stabilization. A controller is proposed and the stability results are established. It is shown that the proposed controller requires only local online measurements of relative velocities, i.e., the suggested control law is decentralized and easy to

Power oscillation damping supported by wind power: A review
Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, 2012Abstract As a consequence of technological progress, wind power has emerged as one of the most promising renewable energy sources. Currently, the penetration level of wind energy in power systems has led to the modification of several aspects of power system behaviour including stability.

POWER OSCILLATION DAMPING CONTROLLER BY STATCOM
2016This paper describes an approach to design a damping controller of a energy storage type STATCOM (ESTATCOM). The energy storage type STATCOM is an advanced flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) device, which controls both active and reactive power injection/absorption to the power system. It also provides a better power swing damping.
