Static Var Compensator for power oscillation damping
IEEE PES T&D 2010, 2010The first Static Var Compensator (SVC) for utility purpose in Finland has been installed to Finnish electricity transmission network. The primary purpose of the SVC is to detect and damp electromechanical interarea oscillations in the network. This paper presents the planning and design aspects of the SVC, the structure of the power oscillation damping

Damping Controller Design for Power System Oscillations
Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, 2006Abstract This paper describes a design of power oscillation damping (POD) as an add-on feature for power flow control. The developed controller has been applied to two FACTS devices: Thyristor Control Series Capacitor (TCSC) and Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). The supplementary POD control design is based on the residue method.

Damping power systems oscillations using facts combinations
International Conference on Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering, 2004. ICEEC '04., 2004The damping of electromechanical modes of oscillation in power systems can be made by static VAR compensator (SVC) and/or power system stabilizer (PSS). The paper presents a combinations of using an SVC, controlled by a nonlinear dynamic controller based adaptive neural network, with a PSS, controlled by variable structure fuzzy logic control.

Power Oscillation Damping From VSC–HVDC Connected Offshore Wind Power Plants
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2016The implementation of power oscillation damping service on offshore wind power plants connected to onshore grids by voltage-source-converter-based high voltage direct current transmission is discussed. Novel design guidelines for damping controllers on voltage-source converters and wind power plant controllers are derived, using phasor diagrams and a ...

Statcom modeling and analysis in damping power system oscillations
35th Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference and Exhibit, 2000In this paper, we discuss the single-machine infinite-bus system with one static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) asymmetrically installed as a current source. Together with a classical two order generator model, a simple power equation is drawn to give direct and clear physical concepts on synchronizing and damping torque coefficients.

Power system oscillation damping with adaptive unified power flow controller
2016 2nd International Conference on Advances in Computing, Communication, & Automation (ICACCA) (Fall), 2016In the family of FACTS devices The unified power flow controller is treated as a most powerful device which increase the transient stability of the system. a suggested controller is used here which can eliminate the disadvantages of the conventional controllers generally used in power system stability and give the better dynamic characteristics.

Power system oscillation damping by intelligent power system stabilizer
2016 IEEE 1st International Conference on Power Electronics, Intelligent Control and Energy Systems (ICPEICES), 2016Power Systems are inherently non-linear systems that are frequently subjected to various disturbances causing oscillations at low frequencies that may lead to instability. Generators are usually provided with power system stabilizers minimize the effect of these oscillations. The objective of this paper is find the optimal parameters for a conventional

Series FACTS controllers for power oscillations damping of power system
2017 Recent Developments in Control, Automation & Power Engineering (RDCAPE), 2017Power system is subjected to oscillations due to various disturbances that occur in the network. There are various techniques that can improve the power oscillations damping occurring in the network and hence improves the performance of the system. One method which is new and very much effective is the use of static series FACTS controller which are ...

Utilizing Distributed Power Flow Controller (DPFC) for power oscillation damping
2009 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting, 2009Because of the power industry moving toward marketoriented, the power tends to be transmitted over longer distances. However, the capability of long, inter-regional power transmission is usually limited, and one of the limitations is caused by low-frequency power oscillations.
