Simplifying products of fractional powers of powers [PDF]

open access: yesACM Communications in Computer Algebra, 2013
Most computer algebra systems incorrectly simplify z -- z /√ w 2 1/ w 3 -- w √ w 2 to 0 rather than to 0/0. The reasons for this are:

USE OF AN INFORMATIONAL SYSTEM FOR MODELING AND SIMULATION CONCERNING THE PROGNOSIS OF ELECTRIC POWER [PDF]

open access: yes
The management of the electric power process in modern hydroelectric power plants implicate the intense use of the information technology, both for the activities performed in actual time and also for the ones performed outside the actual time. Now, when

Systemic dysregulation of apolipoproteins in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis serum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal disease that damages motor neurons. This study found that people with ALS show significant changes in blood fats and the proteins that carry them. Several apolipoproteins were higher, lipid balances were altered, and normal protein–lipid relationships were disrupted.

Principal wind turbines for a conditional portfolio approach to wind farms

open access: yes, 2014
We introduce a measure for estimating the best risk-return relation of power production in wind farms within a given time-lag, conditioned to the velocity field.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Evaluating and analyzing the performance of PV power output forecasting using different models of machine-learning techniques considering prediction accuracy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development
Solar energy as a clean, renewable, and sustainable energy source has considerable potential to meet global energy needs. However, the intermittent and uncertain character of the solar energy source makes the power balance management a very challenging ...

The skills required for transition to university and study in biological sciences: A student perspective

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Bioscience students were asked for their opinions on the value and teaching of skills. 204 responded that teamwork, time management and study skills are necessary to reach University, that scientific writing, research, laboratory and presentation skills are taught effectively during their studies, while other skills are gained inherently through study ...

Bargaining Power in Marriage: Earnings, Wage Rates and Household Production [PDF]

open access: yes
What determines bargaining power in marriage? This paper argues that wage rates, not earnings, determine well-being at the threat point and, hence, determine bargaining power.
