Phase Field Failure Modeling: Brittle‐Ductile Dual‐Phase Microstructures under Compressive Loading

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The approach by Amor and the approach by Miehe and Zhang for asymmetric damage behavior in the phase field method for fracture are compared regarding their fitness for microcrack‐based failure modeling. The comparison is performed for the case of a dual‐phase microstructure with a brittle and a ductile constituent.

Time- and Power-Splitting Strategies for Ambient Backscatter System

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
An ambient backscatter system could utilize the exiting ambient RF signals as both energy source and information carrier to enable the communications among battery-free devices and is deemed as a promising communication primitive for the Internet of ...

The impact of a network split on cascading failure processes

open access: yes, 2017
Cascading failure models are typically used to capture the phenomenon where failures possibly trigger further failures in succession, causing knock-on effects.

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Secure Communications in SWIPT-Enabled Two-Way Relay Networks

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper investigates the secrecy performance of a wireless-powered two-way relay network in the presence of an eavesdropper. Based on adaptive time allocation (TA) and power splitting (PS), a novel secure relaying protocol is proposed. For the purpose

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...
