Power control in a cellular system

Proceedings of IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC), 2002
Presents a power control algorithm based on carrier to interference ratio and simulation results showing a substantial capacity gain in a cellular environment. The power control algorithm is fully decentralized and uses only knowledge of transmitted power and received carrier to interference ratio in the current link. >

Trends in power system protection and control

Proceedings of the 32nd Annual Hawaii International Conference on Systems Sciences. 1999. HICSS-32. Abstracts and CD-ROM of Full Papers, 2001
Abstract As a consequence of deregulation, competition and problems in securing capital outlays for expansion of the infrastructure, modern power systems are operating at ever-smaller capacity and stability margins. Traditional entities involved in securing adequate protection and control for the system may soon become inadequate, and the emergence ...

Adaptive control in power electronic systems

2021
Power electronics systems are subject to uncertain and time-variant parameters and also disturbances e.g. due to aging, thermal effects, load changes etc. Therefore a fixed and linear control structure may not be able to present and give the desired performance under all conditions.

Control of Energy and Power Systems

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1985
Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the ways to manage energy and power systems in power plants. The usual method used for making real power available is the primary control, in which the affected steam power plants are run throttled. In the case of a sudden frequency drop, the turbine valves are opened and, thus, steam is stored out of the ...

Simulator for Automation and Control Systems in a Power System

2019 22nd International Conference on Control Systems and Computer Science (CSCS), 2019
Through the future Smart Grid influenced by the challenges brought by distributed and unpredictable generation, limited energy storage infrastructure or shifting consumption patterns, the real-time large-scale system control becomes a necessity. When several energy concepts are translated into simulated processes, it is important to implement and test ...

Power control in wireless systems: a stochastic control formulation

Proceedings of the 2001 American Control Conference. (Cat. No.01CH37148), 2001
This paper considers power control for log-normal fading channels. A rate based power set point control model and an associated performance measure are introduced. Within this framework, a unique stochastic optimal power control law exists, and the value function of the optimal control is a viscosity solution to the corresponding HJB equation.

Complete controllability of power system dynamics

2000 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Emerging Technologies for the 21st Century. Proceedings (IEEE Cat No.00CH36353), 2002
This paper summarizes our results of a study on the complete controllability of power systems. With a nonlinear dynamic power system model, it is shown that power systems are completely controllable within a region of the state space. In other words, with the available controls, a power system can be steered from one state to any other state within the

Direct Control of Power System Dynamics

2021
One of the main causes of power system instability is low-damped inter-area oscillations. It is important to damp out low-frequency oscillations effectively and to provide necessary precautions in order to avoid major separations of power systems and cascading blackouts.
