Optimization of conventional power system stabilizer to improve dynamic stability

2010 5th IEEE Conference on Industrial Electronics and Applications, 2010
In this paper, conventional power system stabilizer (CPSS) is designed to damp electromechanical oscillations. CPSS parameters settings are computed using linear control theory. A new technique based on Genetic Algorithms (GAs) is proposed to optimize the parameters settings of CPSS.

Analytical Method to Aggregate Multi-Machine SFR Model With Applications in Power System Dynamic Studies

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 2018
The system frequency response (SFR) model describes the average network frequency response after a disturbance and has been applied to a wide variety of dynamic studies.

Dynamic Stability of Power Systems with Power Electronic Interfaced DG

2006 IEEE PES Power Systems Conference and Exposition, 2006
In this paper, the transient stability of power systems with a high penetration level of power electronic interfaced (converter connected) distributed generation is explored by means of computer simulations. Small 2 and 3 bus test systems are used. The converter is modeled as a three-phase full-bridge IGBT voltage source converter (VSC).

A stability theory for constrained dynamic systems with applications to electric power systems

Proceedings of 1994 American Control Conference - ACC '94, 1996
Developed in this paper is a stability theory for a constrained dynamic system of the form \[ {\textstyle {\frac{dx}{dt}}}= f(x), \qquad x\in X,\tag{1} \] where \(x\) is an \(n\)-vector state variable and \(X\) is a connected open subset of \(\mathbb{R}^n\), called the feasible operating region.

Study of Dynamic Voltage Stability of Power Systems

International Journal of Electrical Engineering & Education, 2000
A model of a power system with load dynamics is studied to investigate the voltage collapse phenomenon. The reactive power demand at a load bus is slowly increased until the voltage magnitude sharply falls to a very low level. This is caused by saddle node bifurcation. This is also steady state voltage instability or collapse.

Stabilizer design for dynamic stability control of multimachine power systems

2008
The development of new techniques for stabilizer design has been receiving considerable attention of power system industry. In this thesis, several new stabilizer design techniques are developed for the improvement of dynamic stability of multimachine power systems.
