Arcing Faults in Power Systems

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1941
IT has for many years been recognized that voltage surges of considerable magnitude could be produced under certain system conditions by switching operations or by arcing faults. Such voltage surges have been studied in some detail in the past, and various theories have been developed to explain their occurrence and to predict their magnitude.

Fault diagnosis of power systems

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1992
Knowledge-based fault diagnosis systems are classified by the method of inference utilized in the knowledge-based systems for fault diagnosis of power systems. The characteristics of each class and corresponding issues as well as the state-of-the-art techniques for improving their performance are presented. Additional topics covered are user interfaces,

Fault Detection and Emergency Control in Power Systems

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992
Abstract Control Centers are responsible for the supervision, monitoring and control of Power Systems. Information about the state of the Power System is continuously arriving at these centers where human operators still play the most important role in interpreting this information and taking decisions.

Fault Location in H.V. Power Systems

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1980
Abstract The available criteria for distance-to-fault measurement are summarized. Methods using the electrical quantities of the short-circuit loop are discussed in detail. Influencing factors and suitable compensation methods are outlined. The advantage of applied digital techniques is demonstrated. A descriptionis given of a digital operating fault

Electrical Faults in Power Systems

2016
The identification and classification of electrical faults have a great importance in power system analysis. They help in the dimensioning and the adequate choice of electrical equipment, especially, for protective and interrupting devices. This chapter describes the various faults undergone by the power system and removes some ambiguities causing ...

Model-Based Fault Detection in Power Systems

2006 IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics, 2006
In this paper, we propose an on-line monitoring scheme to detect lost lines and bus load changes on an embedded power system. The proposed monitoring scheme does not rely on classical estimation schemes used in power systems; instead, it monitors, a carefully selected state dependant signal, using an on-line observer.

Power system faults to ground: Part II: Fault resistance

Electrical Engineering, 1937
AN ALLOWANCE for fault resistance in fault current computations is desirable in certain types of problems. The present paper gives the results of a study made to determine reasonable values of fault resistance to use in computing line-to-ground fault currents, particularly in inductive co-ordination studies.

Power-system transients caused by switching and faults

Electrical Engineering, 1939
This paper summarizes the results of an investigation of transient voltages on power systems caused by switching and faults. The transient voltages on power systems as measured by the “klydonograph” are reviewed and compared with the flash-over values of transmission-line insulation. It is shown that the higher values of transient voltages are produced

Fault analysis expert system for power system

2004 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2004. PowerCon 2004., 2005
Internet not only brings opportunities to power utilities, but also takes challenges. By virtue of internet and data warehouse, we developed support software which collected and stored data from devices in substations such as relay protect devices, dynamic process recorder and so on. Based on intelligent agent theory, knowledge discovery theory & rough
