Computers in power system planning
Proceedings of the IEEE, 1974Applications of computers in the planning of power system generation, transmission, and distribution are surveyed. Following a brief description of significant developments in the growth of these applications over the 22 years since the first published paper, the stages in planning (policy, standardization, outline, and detail design) and the ...

Systems Approach to Power Planning
Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1973The development and use of systems engineering techniques in the power industry are reviewed. The power polls of the West Region of the 1970 National Power Survey are used as a backdrop for an analysis of system engineering applications in planning for load growth, the sequential position of various types of generating units under the load curve, and ...

Operation planning of power systems
2006This paper deals with economical optimization in electric utilities. After a short review which summarizes the optimization activities of the Styrian electric utility STEWEAG, a report is given about an attempt of IBM Austria and STEWEAG to practically implement a short term operation planning system which is universally applicable to electric power ...

Power System Planning by Simulation
Advanced Materials Research, 2014The objective of power system planning is to meet the requirements of the customers of the power supply bureau in a region. In addition, a good system planning is helpful to the construction, operation and power supply of a power system. Using a simulation tool is much more convenient than relying on experience or the pure analysis in theory for power ...

Power System Planning, Basic Principles
2011The electric power industry has evolved over many decades, from a low power generator, serving a limited area, to highly interconnected networks, serving a large number of countries, or even continents. Nowadays, an electric power system is one of the man-made largest scale systems; ever made, comprising of huge number of components; starting from low ...

Optimal power system VAr planning
IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1990A technique is presented for planning the future reactive power requirements of a power system. The problem is formulated as a mathematical optimization problem based on a linearized power system model. An efficient dual simplex linear programming technique coupled with relaxation and contingency analysis is used for solution.

Power system planning using customer information systems
2001 IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exposition. Developing New Perspectives (Cat. No.01CH37294), 2002This paper presents an integration mechanism between the prototype customer information system (CIS) and a power engineering planning tool. The aim is to allow the planning staff to use raw data and information available at the CIS in the load forecasts and load increase; hence, leading to reduction of uncertainties related to expected load ...
