Power-system governor simulation

Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1964
The paper considers the detailed operation of a typical steam-turbine governor of the form widely used in conjunction with synchronous generators connected to large power systems. The role played by the prime-mover governor in the transient performance of the synchronous generator is not yet fully elucidated.

Simulated power system restoration

2008 43rd International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2008
Outage time after extensive blackouts depends very much on the power system restoration process. Power system restoration is a very challenging task to the operator since the situation is so far from normal conditions. This paper proposes a simulation-based tool that determines a feasible sequence of operator actions that restores power system ...

Power System and Power Plant Dynamic Simulation

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1999
Abstract The scale and complexity of the present power systems are increasing. To simulate such a system, it is necessary to model both the transmission grid and the power plant in detail. This paper presents the connection of the network simulator program MODES with the detailed model of the steam boiler.

Power system stabilizer for the Nigerian power system-design and simulation

1999 IEEE Africon. 5th Africon Conference in Africa (Cat. No.99CH36342), 2003
Component failures have been found to constitute a major source of disturbance inputs into the Nigerian power system. Consequently, conventional power system stabilizers may prove inadequate. This paper describes the design of a power system stabilizer where the reliability of critical components is made part of the design criteria.

Modelling and Simulation of Power Systems

2016
This chapter presents major modelling and simulation techniques applied in power systems research. As the smart grids will be a journey through the modern power system environment, it is vital to know how these models and techniques are applied in a traditional power grid environment and how they can make advances to realize smart grid objectives.

Simulation of an inductive coupled power transfer system

IECON 2016 - 42nd Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2016
This paper presents two methods for simulating inductive coupled power transfer. The simulations are done using finite element calculations in Comsol Multiphysics. An analytic approach that uses the filamentary method is considered in order to compare the simulation results.

Digital simulation of power systems

Proceedings of IEEE TENCON '98. IEEE Region 10 International Conference on Global Connectivity in Energy, Computer, Communication and Control (Cat. No.98CH36229), 2002
This paper outlines the evolution of digital simulation of power systems and describes the present state of the art. This evolution is caused by and closely follows the evolution of the digital computer. Both the speedup of the hardware and the sophistication of the software environment have greatly influenced the digital simulation of power systems ...

An analog power system simulator

Canadian Electrical Engineering Journal, 1978
The general requirements for power system simulation are outlined and the characteristics and uses of existing simulators described. The theoretical operation of an active analog electronic circuit known as an impedance converter is introduced and its use in a novel power system simulator described.

Simulated annealing in power systems

[Proceedings] 1992 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics, 2003
The author addresses the applicability of optimization by the simulated annealing method to the analysis of power systems. The theory of simulated annealing and applications to unit commitment, maintenance scheduling, and reactive power sources planning are presented.
