Understanding power system stability

58th Annual Conference for Protective Relay Engineers, 2005., 2005
This paper discusses power system instability and the importance of fast fault clearing performance to aid in reliable production of power. Explanation is provided regarding small signal stability, high impedance transmission lines, line loading, and high gain, fast acting excitation systems.

AN ADAPTIVE POWER SYSTEM STABILIZER

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1988
This paper presents an adaptive power system stabilizer utilizing the eigenvalue control strategy. The control algorithm is based on the identification of decoupled subsystem model parameters in real-time from local measurements only. The concept of decentralized stabilization of power system electromechanical oscillatory modes is discussed and control

AN ADAPTIVE POWER SYSTEM STABILIZER

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1987
Abstract The evolution of the adaptive control concept in which a controller continuously tunes itself to the changing plant characteristics, has provided an attractive design alternative to the conventional approach. A microcomputer based power system stabilizer using the self-tuning adaptive control concept is described in this paper. The recursive

An Improved Genetic Algorithm based Power System Stabilizer for power system stabilization

2019 IEEE AFRICON, 2019
This paper considers the damping of the local-mode power system oscillation using Lead-Lag power system stabilizer (PSS). Thus, a simple single-machine infinite-bus power system is used. The Lead-Lag PSS parameters are tuned using Genetic Algorithm Optimization (GAs). Simulation results are presented with and without the proposed controller.

Survey of supervisory power system stabilizers for enhancement of power system stability

2007 42nd International Universities Power Engineering Conference, 2007
The weak performance of conventional power system stabilizers to damp inter-area oscillations during severe disturbances can cause the power systems to lose stability especially if the systems are highly oscillatory. To ensure small-signal stability of the systems, increasing interest has been focused on developing supervisory power system stabilizers (

Transient Stability Improvement of Power System using Power System Stabilizer Integrated with Excitation System

2021 11th IEEE International Conference on Control System, Computing and Engineering (ICCSCE), 2021
Nowadays, there is an increased concern for stability improvement in modern electrical systems, especially due to the use of distributed generation into the grids. Stability of power system is one of the main challenges to improve the power system efficiency.

Enhancement of transient stability on power system with the use of power System stabilizers

2016 International Conference on Electrical, Electronics, and Optimization Techniques (ICEEOT), 2016
As we all know that most of the power systems are interconnected through long distance tie lines, in order to transfer a large amount of electric power. There are some constraints which affect to build new transmission lines, which are: limited availability of resources, strict environment and shortage of funds.

Dynamic Stability Enhancement of Power System Using Intelligent Power System Stabilizer

2014
The destabilizing effect of high gain in voltage regulators persists in power system. The power oscillations of small magnitude and high frequency, which often persisted in power system, present the limitation to the amount of power transmitted within the system. In this paper, a linearized Heffron–Phillips model of a single machine infinite bus (SMIB)

Tuning of Power System Stabilizers via Genetic Algorithm for Stabilization of Power Systems

2004
The paper considers simultaneous placement and tuning of power system stabilizers for stabilization of power systems over a wide range of operating conditions using genetic algorithm. The power system operating at various conditions is considered as a finite set of plants.
