Power, Scepticism and Ethical Theory

open access: yesRoyal Institute of Philosophy Supplement, 2015
AbstractIt is often thought that as human agents we have a power to determine our actions for ourselves. And a natural conception of this power is as freedom – a power over alternatives so that we can determine for ourselves which of a variety of possible actions we perform.

Effect of terahertz irradiation on DNA damage repair in living cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated the effect of terahertz (THz) wave irradiation on DNA double‐strand break (DSB) repair in living cells. We found that THz irradiation enhanced DSB repair at specific frequencies, whereas heat treatment inhibited it, indicating that this effect is nonthermal and frequency‐specific.

Theory of Magnetically Powered Jets [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The magnetic theory for the production of jets by accreting objects is reviewed with emphasis on outstanding problem areas. An effort is made to show the connections behind the occasionally diverging nomenclature in the literature, to contrast the different points of view about basic mechanisms, and to highlight concepts for interpreting the results of

Artificial Intelligence and Mental Well‐Being in Adult Education: Implications for Practice and Professional Responsibility

open access: yesNew Directions for Adult and Continuing Education, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Mental well‐being is central to adult learner success, yet many adult education institutions lack capacity to provide timely and accessible support. This article examines how artificial intelligence (AI) can strengthen mental health–adjacent supports in adult and continuing higher education, with attention to professional practice and ...

Rapid preparations and thermoelectric properties of bulk skutterudites with in situ nanostructures

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
In this paper, Ge and Te co-doped skutterudites Co4Sb11Ge1-xTex were synthesized via two rapid preparation methods, melt quenching-spark plasma sintering (MQ-SPS) and high pressure-spark plasma sintering (HP-SPS). Bulk skutterudites can be synthesized in

Clinical Spectrum and Outcomes of SOX1 Antibody‐Associated Paraneoplastic Neurological Syndromes: A Chinese Cohort Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background SOX1 antibody‐positive paraneoplastic neurological syndromes (PNS) exhibit significant population‐specific clinical heterogeneity. While Western cohorts predominantly manifest Lambert‐Eaton myasthenic syndrome (65%–80%), comprehensive clinical characterization and treatment response data in Asian populations remain critically ...

Droplet Spacing–Controlled Infiltration Behavior in Porous Powder Beds for Binder Jetting

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing and Materials Processing
Binder jetting relies on the infiltration of binder droplets into a porous powder bed, where the spatial arrangement of droplets critically influences feature formation and structural integrity.
