Determinants of power spreads in electricity futures markets: A multinational analysis. ESRI WP580, December 2017 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The growth in variable renewable energy (vRES) and the need for flexibility in power systems go hand in hand. We study how vRES and other factors, namely the price of substitute fuels, power price volatility, structural breaks, and seasonality impact the

Cosmological simulations with hydrodynamics of screened scalar-tensor gravity with non-universal coupling

open access: yes, 2015
In this paper we study the effects of letting the dark matter and the gas in the Universe couple to the scalar field of the symmetron model, a modified gravity theory, with varying coupling strength.

Research on VCSEL interference analysis and elimination method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Laser methane gas sensors have been increasingly accepted in coal mine safety monitoring. Most laser spectroscopic methane gas sensors are based in BFB lasers at around 1650nm.

Reduction of Oxide Inclusions During the High‐Frequency Welding of Steel via a Nonthermal Ar/H2 Plasma Jet

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐frequency (HF) welding of steel is limited by oxide inclusions that degrade weld quality. This study demonstrates, for the first time, the integration of a nonthermal Ar/H2 dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma jet into HF welding. Local plasma treatment provides effective shielding and in‐situ oxide reduction, resulting in markedly fewer and ...

Optimal Bidding Capacity of Virtual Power Plant Incorporating Power-to-X Resources on Day-Ahead Energy Market

open access: yesEnergies
Sector coupling technology, which is also called power-to-X (P2X) technology, refers to the conversion of renewable energy system (RES) outputs into various forms of energy, enhancing the utility of RESs and facilitating the development of sustainable ...

Influence of an Argon/Silane Atmosphere on the Temperature of a Thermal Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of a silane‐doped argon atmosphere on the chemical composition and temperature of a thermal nontransferring argon plasma is investigated using optical emission spectroscopy. As a result of the high amount of free electrons resulting from the stepwise ionization and dissociation of the silane molecule, even a silane addition of 0.01 vol ...

Low-carbon operation optimization of integrated energy system considering CCS-P2G and multi-market interaction

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research
Integrated energy system is crucial in realizing China’s “dual carbon” targets. Considering the carbon capture based electricity to gas and the interaction of multiple markets, this paper proposes a low-carbon operation optimization method of integrated ...

On the Assessment of the CO2 Mitigation Potential of Woody Biomass

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2018
Woody biomass, a renewable energy resource, accumulates solar energy in form of carbon hydrates produced from atmospheric CO2 and H2O. It is, therefore, a means of CO2 mitigation for society as long as the biogenic carbon released to the atmosphere when ...

Greenhouse Gas Emissions Savings from Wind Power [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Currently in Great Britain, estimates of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions savings that arise from wind power replacing other types of generation are approximated as the average emissions of electricity generation; however, this value is known to be ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.
