Characteristics Analysis of the Heat-to-Power Ratio from the Supply and Demand Sides of Cities in Northern China

open access: yesEnergies, 2020
Combined heat and power (CHP), an efficient heating method with cascades use of energy, accounts for approximately 50% of the heat sources in northern China.

Power-to-heat in CSP systems for capacity expansion [PDF]

open access: yesAIP Conference Proceedings, 2019
The objective of this paper is the evaluation of trends when a power-to-heat system with electrical heaters is integrated to a molten salt solar tower to additionally charge the thermal energy storage system and to expand the capacity of the CSP plant.

Hybrid Microwave-Cavity Heat Engine

open access: yes, 2014
We propose and analyze the use of hybrid microwave cavities as quantum heat engines. A possible realization consists of two macroscopically separated quantum dot conductors coupled capacitively to the fundamental mode of a microwave cavity.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Solar photovoltaic power-to-heat-to-power energy storage

open access: yes, 2020
This article summarizes part of the work developed, and already published, in the context of the AMADEUS project (www.amadeusproject. eu), a FET-OPEN project funded by the European Commission to research a new generation of materials and solid state devices for ultra-high temperature energy storage and conversion.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Overview of free-piston Stirling engine technology for space power application [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
An overview is presented of free-piston Stirling engine activities, directed toward space power applications. One of the major elements of the program is the development of advanced power conversion.

Power enhancement of heat engines via correlated thermalization in multilevel systems

open access: yes, 2014
We analyze a heat machine based on a periodically-driven quantum system permanently coupled to hot and cold baths. It is shown that the maximal power output of a degenerate $V$-type three-level heat engine is that generated by two independent two-level ...

Analysis of heat generation and thermal lensing in erbium 3-µm lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The influence of energy-transfer upconversion (ETU) between neighboring ions in the upper and lower laser levels of erbium 3-µm continuous-wave lasers on heat generation and thermal lensing is investigated.

Association of Corticospinal Tract Asymmetry With Ambulatory Ability After Intracerebral Hemorrhage

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Ambulatory ability after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is important to patients. We tested whether asymmetry between ipsi‐ and contra‐lesional corticospinal tracts (CSTs) assessed by diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is associated with post‐ICH ambulation.
