Fault diagnosis system for tapped power transmission lines
Electric Power Systems Research, 2010Abstract This paper presents a design for a fault diagnosis system (FDS) for tapped HV/EHV power transmission lines. These lines have two different protection zones. The proposed approach reduces the cost and the complexity of the FDS for these types of lines. The FDS consists basically of fifteen artificial neural networks (ANNs).

Fault Classification in Vehicle Power Transmission using Machine Learning
Journal of Machine and Computing, 2022The work describes the application of machine learning (ML) to the categorization and diagnosis of vehicle faults in the power transmission system. For each failure characteristic condition, a machine learning algorithm may be employed to categorize their separate diagnostic elements.

Accurate fault location technique for power transmission lines
IEE Proceedings C Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 1990The authors describe a very accurate fault location technique which uses post-fault voltage and current derived at both line ends. Fault location is independent of fault resistance and the method does not require any knowledge of source impedance. It maintains high accuracy for untransposed lines and no fault type identification is required.

2020 IEEE/IAS 56th Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Technical Conference (I&CPS), 2020
This article proposes a novel fault-localization method that is based on the nonintrusive fault-monitoring (NIFM) techniques in high-voltage/extra-high-voltage (HV/EHV) power transmission networks. In this work, the fault signals measured at the utilities are extracted by the hyperbolic S-transform (HST) before going through the identification process.

Accurate fault location algorithm for power transmission lines
European Transactions on Electrical Power, 2000AbstractIn this paper we propose a new fault location algorithm for power transmission lines based on one terminal voltage and current data. A distributed time domain model of the line is used as a basis for algorithm development. The suggested technique only takes advantage of post‐fault voltage and current samples taken at one end of the line and ...

Enhancing Fault Location Performance on Power Transmission Lines
2007 IEEE Lausanne Power Tech, 2007This paper discusses supporting algorithms for fault location on power transmission lines. The performance of fault location algorithm is strongly dependent on the accuracy of line model. Short circuit recordings contain valuable data, from which line parameters can be computed.

Fault detection at power transmission lines by extreme learning machine
2013 21st Signal Processing and Communications Applications Conference (SIU), 2013With the increase of energy demand continuous energy transmission gained considerable attention. For a continuous energy transmission, the faulty power transmission line needs to be quickly isolated from the system. In this study, Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) possessing fast learning and high generalization capacity was used for this purpose and it ...

A novel fault features extraction scheme for power transmission line fault diagnosis
IEEE Africon '11, 2011This paper proposes a novel transmission line fault detection and classification scheme, based on a single-end measurements using time shift invariant property of a sinusoidal waveform. Various types of faults at different locations, fault resistance and fault inception angles on a 400 kV – 361.65 km power system transmission line are investigated. The

Six-phase (multi-phase) power transmission systems: Fault analysis
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1977The motivation for writing this paper stems from the question, "If the concept of six- (multi-) phase systems become feasible, how to plan such systems?" One of the important aspects of transmission planning is the design of adequate protective scheme which requires a detailed fault analysis.

Faulted Phase Selection for Half-Wavelength Power Transmission Lines
2018 IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting (PESGM), 2018In this work, a novel faulted phase selection algorithm is proposed to be used for distance protection applied to half-wavelength power transmission lines. These lines represent an alternating current solution for very-long point-to-point interconnections as an alternative to HVDC.
