Power Line Transmission and Radiation

Space Science Reviews, 1983
A power line system consisting of multi-conductors above the ground is decomposed into a metal return (or balanced) and a ground return (unbalanced) circuit in terms of propagation modes. Power line radiation above the ground is sorted into two classes, transition radiation from discontinuities which takes place from a line of finite length and ...

Green data transmission in power line communications

2012 IEEE Global Communications Conference (GLOBECOM), 2012
This paper presents a green data transmission approach to enhance the energy efficiency of power line communications (PLC) by jointly utilizing signal detection and resource allocation techniques. Due to the awareness of the interference as enabled by the signal detection function, the proposed PLC system can adaptively adjust the transmission ...

Modeling and control of electric power transmission lines

2001 European Control Conference (ECC), 2001
In conjunction with the deregulated energy market, more energy must be transported over longer distances with greater flexibility. And it is difficult to obtain the right of way for new transmission lines. Therefore the existing lines must be better used, e.g. by increasing the operating voltage.

Power Limits of 220-Kv Transmission Lines

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1933
For the transmission of power from Boulder Dam to the system of the Southern California Edison Company, numerous studies were made to determine the power limits of various designs of transmission lines, and the maximum generating capacity that could be installed safely at Boulder Dam without incurring instability.

Design of the Linebot for power transmission lines inspection

2013 IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Biomimetics (ROBIO), 2013
This paper presented a novel power transmission lines inspecting robot named “Linebot”, which has high maneuverability and keeps in compact size and lightweight. Linebot has 11 degrees of freedom totally. It equips with two open-close wheels and a pair of grippers, which can be driven separately.

Power line communication using timed transmission

2003 International Symposium on VLSI Technology, Systems and Applications. Proceedings of Technical Papers. (IEEE Cat. No.03TH8672), 2004
This paper reviews established methods of communication using in-building power conductors with particular attention to the 100 kHz to 450 kHz frequency range. It also reviews line characteristic impedance and it presents new measurements of attenuation and noise on the power conductors.

Autonomous robot for a power transmission line inspection

ISCAS 2001. The 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.01CH37196), 2002
An autonomous robot for power transmission line inspection, that can induce the voltage from the transmission line as a power source, is presented. The robot uses current transformer principle to induce the current from power transmission line and vision function to navigate.

A Novel Visualization Method of Power Transmission Lines

2015 IEEE International Conference on Multimedia Big Data, 2015
Visualization plays an important role in the analysis of grid circuit topological structure. The traditional line visualization method based on geographical position usually contains such problems that the nodes density distribution is uneven and the lines are too complex to understand. Some other methods completely neglect the real geographic location

Power limits of transmission lines

Electrical Engineering, 1952
THIS ARTICLE PRESENTS the results of studies of the factors which influence the power limits or design loadings of transmission lines. Recent investigations have shown the principal factors determining the loading of transmission circuits, particularly those for distances of 100 to 600 miles.

A mobile robot for inspection of power transmission lines

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1991
The development of a mobile robot that can navigate overhead power transmission lines completely unattended by a human operator is described. Its ultimate purpose is to automate the inspection of power transmission line equipment. The authors have assembled a full-scale functional model of such a mobile robot.
