Choice of the unit power-generating capacity of a nuclear power plant
Atomic Energy, 2008A characteristic of the present status of nuclear power in Russia is that in the next few years it will be necessary to make basic technological and economic decisions that will have long-term consequences. These decisions must concern all aspects of the nuclear-power complex.

Mortality among workers at a nuclear power plant in the United States
Cancer Causes & Control, 1993A second follow-up of 9,000 workers at the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant (MD, USA) identified 346 deaths in the years 1969-88, 101 of which were attributed to malignant neoplasms. The original study had the primary purpose of assessing the feasibility of studies of workers based upon individual plant and Nuclear Regulatory Commission records.

Unitized concept for earthquake-resistant nuclear power plants
Nuclear Engineering and Design, 1972Abstract This paper discusses a unitized concept for an earthquake-resistant nuclear power plant which can withstand major earthquake shaking and fault slips without releasing radioactive material into the atmosphere. A 1000 MWe pressurized water reactor power plant of recent design is adapted to a unitized concept, and cost studies are made for the ...

Database for Decommissioning Power-Generating Units at the Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant
Atomic Energy, 2003It is shown that the database plays a role and has a place in the decommissioning of a nuclear power plant. The technical requirements for the program structure and the functional possibilities of the database are formulated.

Advances in multi-unit nuclear power plant probabilistic risk assessment
Reliability Engineering & System Safety, 2017Abstract The Fukushima Dai-ichi accident highlighted the importance of risks from multiple nuclear reactor unit accidents at a site. As a result, there has been considerable interest in Multi-Unit Probabilistic Risk Assessment (MUPRA) in the past few years.

Tsunami protection of coastal nuclear power plants in the United States
Marine Geodesy, 1978Protection from potential tsunami effects is a design criterion for coastal nuclear power plants, especially on the U.S. Pacific Coast and in Puerto Rico. Because of the uncertainties involved in the probabilistic approach, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission uses a deterministic approach to conservatively estimate tsunami runup, drawdown, and the ...

The Safety of Nuclear Power Plants in the United States-Reply
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1987ABSTRACT In Reply.— Drs Bari and Kouts are quite correct in identifying important differences between the containment structure, other safety systems, and the fundamental design of the Chernobyl reactor and those in commercial US light water reactors.

Loss of Offsite Power Recovery Modeling in United States Nuclear Power Plants
INSIGHT, 2020ABSTRACTLoss of offsite power (LOOP) can have a major, adverse impact on a nuclear power plant's (NPP) ability to achieve and maintain safe shutdown conditions. The time required for subsequent restoration of offsite power after a LOOP event occurred and the probabilities of LOOP events exceeding various durations (or LOOP non‐recovery probabilities ...
