A novel Poynting vector analyzer

1999 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatability. Symposium Record (Cat. No.99CH36261), 2003
A new frequency selective field strength sensor (150 kHz-1 GHz) is described with high dynamic range, measuring all Poynting vector quantities (E, H, phase). Our chosen principle includes a synthesizer and a triple superhet conversion down to 0-150 Hz.

Development of poynting vector sensor

2016
It is customary to use voltage and current transformers already present in the TPS system to determine power distribution in AC systems. As these components are normally only present at a limited number of locations, detailed recordings are hampered and have limited resolution.

The Poynting Vector in the Ionosphere

Proceedings of the IRE, 1950
The equations of motion of ionospheric electrons in the field of plane electromagnetic waves subject to the frictional force of collision and to the force of the earth's magnetic field are developed in a form permitting graphical calculation of the wave polarization.

Poynting vector in moving plasmas

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1967
It is shown that the Poynting vector representing the power flow per unit surface area in the polarization current model of moving plasma used in the Minkowski theory of moving media should be E × B/µ 0 and not E × H.

The Poynting vector and power in a simple circuit

American Journal of Physics, 2000
This paper outlines a simple technique for visualizing the flow of energy from a power supply to elements in a circuit as a flow through the electric and magnetic fields—or the Poynting vector—surrounding the circuit. In addition to providing the reader experience with the Poynting vector and its relation to energy flow and power, we also present a ...

Poynting Vector and the Physical Meaning of Nonactive Powers

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2004
This paper explains how the disputed energy oscillations associated with nonactive powers can be attributed to electromagnetic waves that travel back and forth between the transmission line's sending and receiving ends. Such waves "hug" the conductors and dwell in the dielectric that surrounds the conductors.

Poynting vector and the quality of electric energy

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 2001
AbstractThis paper expounds on electric energy quality issues using the Poynting Vector (PV). It is shown that components that do not contribute to a net energy transfer, are attributed to the nonactive components of the PV that are associated with three situations: 1. Phase displacement, 2. Current harmonics injection, 3. Load unbalance. The nonactive

The gravitational Poynting vector and energy transfer

American Journal of Physics, 1987
We define, in analogy to electrodynamics, the gravitational Poynting vector and show that it provides a mechanism for the transfer of gravitational energy to a system of falling objects.

Null Poynting vector electromagnetic torus

Physics of Plasmas, 2019
Maxwell equations in free space are solved for a standing wave torus configuration under axisymmetry, which provides a mathematical support to the microwave cavity hypothesis of ball lightning. With a null Poynting vector with the outgoing part canceling the incoming part, this torus configuration satisfies the E→//B→ gauge of the Maxwell equations.

Poynting vector in negative-index metamaterials

Physical Review B, 2011
Metamaterials are characterized by counterintuitive phenomena, which have been debated since their first practical realization. Due to their anomalous backward power flow, it has been recently discussed whether even the classic definition of the Poynting vector, defining the power flux per unit surface, should be modified when dealing with ...
