Poynting vector and beam divergence

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2020
Laser beam divergence was considered using the components of the Poynting vector. A physical interpretation of the real and imaginary parts of the “longitudinal” field component (along the z axis, the direction of beam propagation) is given in an exponential representation.

Poynting vector analysis of a superlens

Optics Letters, 2005
A power analysis of the lossy negative refractive index or left-handed slab lens is described. The presence of vortices in the image plane is revealed with small loss or gain, and these are attributed to the influence of field growth in the evanescent spectrum.

Null Poynting vector electromagnetic torus

Physics of Plasmas, 2019
Maxwell equations in free space are solved for a standing wave torus configuration under axisymmetry, which provides a mathematical support to the microwave cavity hypothesis of ball lightning. With a null Poynting vector with the outgoing part canceling the incoming part, this torus configuration satisfies the E→//B→ gauge of the Maxwell equations.

A novel Poynting vector analyzer

1999 IEEE International Symposium on Electromagnetic Compatability. Symposium Record (Cat. No.99CH36261), 2003
A new frequency selective field strength sensor (150 kHz-1 GHz) is described with high dynamic range, measuring all Poynting vector quantities (E, H, phase). Our chosen principle includes a synthesizer and a triple superhet conversion down to 0-150 Hz.

Experimental analysis of the Poynting vector characteristics

Applied Optics, 2012
The possibility of experimental measurement of the Poynting vector characteristics is shown. Under paraxial approximation, these characteristics may be obtained on the basis of local Stokes polarimetry and interferometry of electric field components.

Poynting Vector Method for Reflector Beam Shaping

IEEE Antennas and Wireless Propagation Letters, 2019
A reflector beam shaping method is presented, which includes an efficient algorithm. This efficient algorithm based on the Poynting vector tracing method is employed to analyze the procedure of beam propagation and reflection.

Poynting vector in moving plasmas

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1967
It is shown that the Poynting vector representing the power flow per unit surface area in the polarization current model of moving plasma used in the Minkowski theory of moving media should be E × B/µ 0 and not E × H.

The Poynting Vector in Magnetohydrodynamics

American Journal of Physics, 1965
The propagation of electromagnetic energy arising from magnetohydrodynamic disturbances is described by a general Poynting vector, valid for perturbations of any magnitude. The Poynting vector associated with the solar wind is specified, and its magnitude is shown to be of the order of 6 μW/m2 at the orbit of earth.

Pulse centroid velocity of the Poynting vector

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2004
The evolution of the pulse centroid velocity of the Poynting vector for both ultrawideband rectangular and ultrashort Gaussian envelope pulses is presented as a function of the propagation distance in a dispersive, absorptive dielectric material. The index of refraction of the material is described by the Lorentz-Lorenz formula in which a single ...
