In reverse time migration, we can produce angle‐domain common‐imaging gathers in either the scattering‐angle domain or the dip‐angle domain. The latter, although not used as widely as the former, still provides a unique view to look into seismic imaging.

The Poynting vector (PV) has been widely used to calculate propagation vectors of a pressure field (PF) in acoustic media. The most widely used acoustic PV formula is the negative of a product of the time and space derivatives.

The Poynting vector and angular momentum density of the autofocusing Butterfly-Gauss beams
Optics and Laser Technology, 2018Three different Butterfly-Gauss beams are proposed by introducing higher order Butterfly catastrophe to the field of optics, where an autofocusing Butterfly-Gauss beam with a special profile is emphatically studied and it can be regarded as the sum of ...

Angle‐domain common‐image gathers are an important tool in the post‐processing of seismic images and for reservoir characterization. The generation of angle gathers is a very important issue when dealing with angle‐domain images.

Development of poynting vector sensor
2016It is customary to use voltage and current transformers already present in the TPS system to determine power distribution in AC systems. As these components are normally only present at a limited number of locations, detailed recordings are hampered and have limited resolution.

Poynting vector in negative-index metamaterials
Physical Review B, 2011Metamaterials are characterized by counterintuitive phenomena, which have been debated since their first practical realization. Due to their anomalous backward power flow, it has been recently discussed whether even the classic definition of the Poynting vector, defining the power flux per unit surface, should be modified when dealing with ...

Poynting Vector of Complex Optical Fields
Frontiers in Optics 2013, 2013Poynting vector density of polarization singular field with well defined polarization structure such as lemon or star is experimentally measured using polarization interference and found to have unique features in contrast to constituent scalar fields.

RTM angle gathers using Poynting vectors
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2011, 2011Angle-domain common image gathers have been shown to provide several advantages for the analysis of migrated images. In this abstract we describe an efficient new method for creating angle gathers for reverse time migration (RTM). The method relies on the computation of the direction of energy flux (known in electromagnetics as the Poynting vector) in ...

An introduction to the Poynting vector
Physics Education, 1979Most students of physics first encounter the concept of electromagnetic energy flow associated with Poynting vector at a relatively advanced stage in their education, usually in the context of the flow of energy in electromagnetic waves. The present author draws attention to the possibility of introducing the Poynting vector concept at a much earlier ...

The gravitational Poynting vector and energy transfer
American Journal of Physics, 1987We define, in analogy to electrodynamics, the gravitational Poynting vector and show that it provides a mechanism for the transfer of gravitational energy to a system of falling objects.
