The Poynting vector in a transformer
American Journal of Physics, 1984In any transformer the Poynting vector E×H points away from the primary winding into the field, and from the field into the secondary winding. The Poynting vector results from the superposition of the E=−∂A/∂t field associated with the changing magnetic flux and the H fields of the currents in the windings.

The Poynting Vector in the Ionosphere
Proceedings of the IRE, 1950The equations of motion of ionospheric electrons in the field of plane electromagnetic waves subject to the frictional force of collision and to the force of the earth's magnetic field are developed in a form permitting graphical calculation of the wave polarization.

Energy in Electromagnetism: The Poynting Vector
2017John Henry Poynting (1852–1914) [Figure 1(a)] was born in Lancashire, England, and he was the youngest son of Thomas Elford Poynting, a Unitarian minister who was also the teacher in the local school Poynting where he attended when he was young. Poynting later attended Owens College in Manchester, England (1867–1872), where he studied physics under the

The History of the Mixed Poynting Vector
1987This discussion of the importance of the mixed Poynting vector is given by way of a remark on the paper of H.-D. Geiler, K. Hehl, and D. Stock in 1983. It can be pointed out that the onset of this discussion can be traced back to the mid 19th century and to Stokes, v. Helmholtz, Lord Rayleigh etc.

The Critical Points of Poynting Vector Fields
1988In a thought provoking paper Maxwell [The Scientific Papers of James Clerk Maxwell, ed. W. D. Niven, vol. 2, 233-240, Dover Publications, New York (1952)] studied the flow of water on the Earth's surface and how this flow is affected by the local geography.
