Properties of recycled concrete aggregates strengthened by different types of pozzolan slurry

Construction and Building Materials, 2019
Recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) retrieved from construction and demolition concrete wastes is widely used as an alternative to natural aggregate (NA) in the construction industry. However, the weak adhered mortar adversely affects the properties of RCA,

Properties of concrete containing strengthened crushed brick aggregate by pozzolan slurry

, 2020
Using crushed brick as a coarse aggregate to produce a new environmentally friendly recycled concrete is of particular interest to maintain natural aggregate (NA) and realize waste resources recycling.

Life cycle assessment (LCA) of an alkali-activated binary concrete based on natural volcanic pozzolan: A comparative analysis to OPC concrete

Construction and Building Materials, 2018
This article evaluates, through a life cycle assessment (LCA), the GWP (Global Warming Potential) and GTP (Global Temperature Change Potential) of an alkali-activated binary concrete (AABC) based on natural volcanic pozzolan from Colombia (NP) (70%) and ...

Pozzolana and Pozzolanic Cements—A Review Part—II: Pozzolanic Cements

Transactions of the Indian Ceramic Society, 1983
In this review pozzolanic cements have been discussed. A certain amount of pozzolana can be mixed with Portland cement to yield pozzolanic cements and thus the mixture becomes economic as well as inter-reactive. The specific advantages are its better strength, improved workability, less heat of hydration, less shrinkage and greater resistance to ...

Pozzolanic activity of natural pozzolan–lime pastes and physicomechanical characteristics

Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, 2018
In order to evaluate the pozzolanic activity of a natural pozzolan (NP) of rhyolitic composition, several pastes were prepared by mixing the pozzolan with hydrated lime, in different ratios. The pastes were stored in standard conditions (RH = 99 ± 1%, T = 25 ± 1 °C) and evaluated using thermal analysis (TG-DTA), X-ray diffraction, compressive strength ...

Pozzolanic activity tests as a measure of pozzolans' performance. Part 1

Magazine of Concrete Research, 2007
The current methodologies used for the selection and classification of pozzolans present certain chemical and physical requirements that may restrict their use. A good example of this is the use of the pozzolanic activity index as the main parameter in the selection and classification of pozzolans. This is determined by several different methodologies

Natural pozzolan based geopolymers: A review on mechanical, microstructural and durability characteristics

Construction and Building Materials, 2018
Natural pozzolans are tremendous source of reactive silica and alumina required for geopolymer synthesis as an alternative binder for ordinary Portland cement. They are available at a comparatively low cost and generate a low ecological footprint through

Pozzolanic activation of metakaolin

Advances in Cement Research, 1992
Metakaolin may be calcined without grinding and suitably activated by Ca(OH)2, Na2SO4, CaSO4 (beta anhydrite) and/or NaOH. The best strengths, 50 MPa from mortar cubes at 18 months, were obtained using Ca(OH)2 and CaSO4 activators. The handling and set properties are similar to those of Portland cement; aluminous C-S-H gel is the best binder.
