Effect of Cement Types on Mechanical Strength, Durability, and Unit Production Cost of Concrete

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
The primary aim of the present study is to identify the optimal cement type by jointly assessing mechanical performance, durability performance, and cost‐effectiveness using multicriteria decision‐making (MCDM) approaches. This study investigates the effects of four cement types commonly used in Bangladesh—CEM I/OPC, CEM II/A‐M (S‐V‐L), CEM II/B‐M (S‐V‐

Experimental Characterization and Numerical Performance Assessment of Treated Cinder Gravel for Base Course Applications

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
This study investigated the suitability of natural cinder gravel blended with fine‐crushed aggregates as a base course pavement material using laboratory tests and numerical simulations. Laboratory test results for natural cinder gravel indicated that cinder gravel alone failed to meet the Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) standard specifications for ...

Effects of Partial Substitution of Ordinary Portland Cement With Stone‐Cutting Dust, Limestone, and Natural Pozzolana on Compressive Strength and Microstructure

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Rapid industrialization and urban growth have driven a rising demand for cement, yet ordinary Portland cement (OPC) production remains energy‐intensive and a major source of CO2 emissions. The partial substitution of OPC with supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) offers a sustainable route to reduce environmental impact, production costs, and ...

Effect of Pozzolana and Lime on Expansive Soil Properties

open access: yesFES Journal of Engineering Sciences, 2021
This study investigates the effect of pozzolana and quick lime as stabilizer materials on expansive soil properties. Disturbed soil sample was collected from Al-Qadarif city in east of Sudan. The basic properties, swelling and strength of the soil were measured. The soil shows very weak strength and very high swelling potential.

The Effect of Granite Waste Powder as a Cement Substitute on the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Mortar

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Granite is extensively used in the construction industry; however, substantial solid waste is produced during production. This study focused on the feasibility of replacing cement with granite powder (GP) in cement mortar by investigating various properties, like consistency, water retention, density, setting time, compressive strength, and flexural ...

The difference between Sand and Pozzolana [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Roman Studies, 1913
In spite of the amount which recent publications have added to our knowledge of Roman building methods and materials, there is still some inaccuracy to be noted in the use of terms due very often to a misconception of the chemical constituents of the materials in question.
