Characteristics and pozzolanic reactivity of glass powders

Cement and Concrete Research, 2005
Abstract This paper deals with the morphology, fineness and pozzolanic activity of four glass powders: one (GP-fine) from the screening of crushed waste glasses, one (GP-dust) from a dust collector for the glass crushing process and two (GP-4000 and GP-6000) from further grinding of the powder from the dust collector in a ball mill.

Pozzolanic reactivity of pure calcined clays

Applied Clay Science, 2016
Abstract Eight reference clay samples, 4 kaolinitic, 3 smectitic and 1 illitic clay, were purified and thermally treated in order to determine their pozzolanic reactivity in cementitious materials. The clays were calcined in a fixed-bed electrical furnace at temperatures ranging between 500 °C and 900 °C.

Effects of the pozzolanic reactivity of nanoSiO2 on cement-based materials

Cement and Concrete Composites, 2015
Abstract The aim of this work is to understand the characteristics of the pozzolanic reactivity of nanoSiO2 from studies of its pozzolanic reaction kinetics, morphology and structure of the hydrates and the influences of these features on the properties of cement-based materials, so as to explore a more targeted way of using nanoSiO2 in cement or ...

Pozzolanic reactivity of lightweight aggregates

Cement and Concrete Research, 1990
Abstract Over recent years more attention has been given to the influence of the aggregate-cement paste interfacial zone on the various properties of concrete. For the lightweight aggregate - cement paste interface, it is believed that the interface is characterized by a mechanical interlocking in combination with a chemical interaction in the form ...

Quick monitoring of pozzolanic reactivity of waste ashes

Waste Management, 2009
This article proposes a quick method of monitoring for pozzolanic reactivity of waste ashes by investigating the electrical conductivity of the suspension at an elevated temperature. This suspension is obtained by mixing tested pozzolan with an ordinary Portland cement (OPC) solution produced by mixing ordinary Portland cement with water.

Development of Blended Pozzolans Using Natural Pozzolan and Ground Glass Through Reactivity and Durability Investigations

Advances in Civil Engineering Materials, 2022
Abstract This study emphasizes the reactivity evaluation of pozzolans and the durability performance of blended cements containing pozzolans. A ground glass, three raw natural pozzolans, and two blended pozzolans of ground glass and raw natural pozzolan were examined for reactivity using the modified lime-reactivity test, the strength ...

Grinding and pozzolanic reactivity of quartz powders

Powder Technology, 1999
Abstract Cement-based materials are in wide use — partly in the belief that their reactivity is due to their glassy nature. The question we wish to investigate is: how specific is the link between the pozzolanic reaction and glassy materials? In order to answer it, we take the case of quartz, a material often used in cement-based matrices, reputed to

Evaluation of the Metakaolin Pozzolanic Reactivity in Cement Pastes

Materials Science Forum, 2008
The pozzolanic reactivity of a commercial metakaolin (MK) manufactured in Brazil, was evaluated in pastes prepared with a type II Portland cement, when used in cement substitution degrees from 10 to 40 mass % by thermal analysis techniques. The reactivity during the early stages of hydration was studied in real time from Non-Conventional Differential ...

Comparison of different methods for enhancing reactivity of pozzolans

Cement and Concrete Research, 2001
Abstract This paper compares three methods for the activation of pozzolanic reactivity of a natural pozzolan: (1) prolonged grinding of natural pozzolans (mechanical method), (2) elevated temperature curing of cement pastes containing a pozzolan (thermal method), and (3) use of chemical activators such as Na2SO4 and CaCl2 (chemical method).
