Prospective subtyping of head and neck basal cell carcinoma by dermoscopy and handheld RCM

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Handheld reflectance confocal microscopy, alone or with dermoscopy, increases specificity, maintains high sensitivity and improves diagnostic confidence for head and neck basal cell carcinoma. It may offer a non‐invasive alternative to confirmatory biopsies when planning micrographically controlled surgery in clinically high‐risk cases.

Potentially Inappropriate Prescribing to Older Patients Admitted to Units for Integrated Continuous Care: Application of STOPP/START Criteria

open access: yes
Background: Potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) and potential prescription omissions (PPOs) have been widely explored, but few studies focused on patients aged 75 years and over.

Adoption of Medicare's Cognitive Assessment and Care Plan Services Benefit: People, Plans, Payment, and Providers

open access: yesJournal of the American Geriatrics Society, EarlyView.
Receipt of cognitive assessment and care plan (CACP) services was higher among Medicare fee‐for‐service beneficiaries than Medicare Advantage beneficiaries in annual cross‐sections of beneficiaries diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, non‐Alzheimer's dementia, or mild cognitive impairment by the end of the year.

Knocking Out Two Polyphenol Oxidase Genes Significantly Improves Recombinant Protein Purification in Nicotiana benthamiana

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient purification remains a key technical challenge affecting the recovery efficiency of recombinant proteins in plant‐based systems. Complex metabolites, particularly polyphenols, often cause recombinant protein aggregation during purification.

Size (and frequency) matter: Evaluating the best management practices for blood products with spotty demand

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Blood banks often use simple ordering rules that replenish stock to a target level when inventory falls below a trigger point. However, for products such as Low‐Titer group O Whole Blood (LTOWB), where utilization is intermittent, simple rules may not always be effective.

Impact of heat exposure during immobilization‐induced de‐training and re‐training on aerobic capacity and haemoglobin mass

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract The aim of this work was to assess the effect of heat exposure on cardiorespiratory and haematological responses during de‐training and re‐training. Nineteen men (33.8 ± 2.7 years; 182 ± 5.7 cm, 84.4 ± 9.3 kg) completed 4 weeks of pre‐training followed by heat exposure (HEAT; n = 9) or control (CON; n = 10).

Co‐ingesting whey protein with dual‐source carbohydrate enhances amino acid availability without compromising post‐exercise liver glycogen resynthesis

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Graphical overview of the experimental study. The upper‐left panel presents the research question, and the bottom‐left panel provides a schematic overview of the experimental design. The right‐hand panel depicts repetitive spectral data obtained by magnetic resonance spectroscopy, liver glycogen content during the 5 h post ...

Mechanisms of haemoglobin mass expansion following heat stress

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Theorised mechanisms of heat stress‐induced erythropoiesis which may facilitate the expansion of haemoglobin mass. A, acute: heat stress‐induced renal ischaemia. Redistribution of blood flow away from the kidneys to facilitate thermoregulation during heat stress could reduce renal oxygen delivery, subsequently lowering renal PO2${
