We show that the strong CP problem is solved in a large class of compactifications of string theory. The Peccei-Quinn mechanism solves the strong CP problem if the CP-breaking effects of the ultraviolet completion of gravity and of QCD are small compared

Parity solutions to the strong CP problem are a compelling alternative to approaches based on Peccei-Quinn symmetry, particularly given the expected violation of global symmetries in a theory of quantum gravity. The most natural of these solutions break parity at a low scale, giving rise to a host of experimentally accessible signals.

The Monodromy Group of pq-Covers
In this work we study the monodromy group of covers $φ\circ ψ$ of curves \linebreak $\mathcal{Y}\xrightarrow {\quad ψ} \mathcal{X} \xrightarrow {\quad φ} \mathbb{P}^{1}$, where $ψ$ is a $q$-fold cyclic étale cover and $φ$ is a totally ramified $p$-fold cover, with $p$ and $q$ different prime numbers with $p$ odd. We show that the Galois group $\mathcal{

C. elegans as an in vivo model system for the phenotypic drug discovery for treating paraquat poisoning [PDF]
Background Paraquat (PQ) is an effective and widely used herbicide and causes numerous fatalities by accidental or voluntary ingestion. However, neither the final cytotoxic mechanism nor effective treatments for PQ poisoning have been discovered ...

I discuss how the solution of the $U(1)_A$ problem of QCD through the existence of the $\theta$-vacuum gave rise to the strong CP problem. After examining various suggested solutions to this problem, I conclude that the only viable solution still is the one that involves the existence of a spontaneously broken chiral symmetry: $U(1)_{PQ}$

RabGAP TBC1D25 is involved in human osteoclast activity
The osteoclast cell polarization and the ruffled border formation during bone resorption are major vesicle trafficking events. Rab GTPases have been shown to be involved in these processes, however very little is known about their regulators, such as Rab

Role of the MAPK pathway in human lung epithelial-like A549 cells apoptosis induced by paraquat [PDF]
This study aims to investigate the value of mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) for paraquat (PQ)-induced apoptosis in human lung epithelial-like A549 cells and the specific mechanism. A549 cell apoptosis were induced by PQ.

Harmonic Mitigation Using Passive Harmonic Filters: Case Study in a Steel Mill Power System
In this study, we mitigated the harmonic voltage in a power system that contained the roughing mill (RM) and finishing mill (FM) motor drives. AC/DC converter type RM drive is a non-linear, large-capacity varying load that adversely affects power quality,
