Osteohistology of the Maastrichtian, small‐bodied elasmosaurid Kawanectes lafquenianum (Sauropterygia; Plesiosauria)

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, Volume 247, Issue 3-4, Page 466-487, September/October 2025.
The present contribution brings new osteohistological information on the postcranial bones of Kawanectes lafquenianum and shed some light on Plesiosauria microanatomy and microstructure. The bone architecture shows variability between forelimbs and hindlimbs.

Analyzing the Life History of Caimans: The Growth Dynamics of Caiman latirostris From an Osteohistological Approach

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 286, Issue 1, January 2025.
This research offers insights into the life history and growth dynamics of Caiman latirostris, highlighting their growth patterns, aging, and attainment of sexual maturity, and how environmental conditions impact their development. This study has direct implications for understanding the life histories of extinct archosaurs and other sauropsids ...

Linear Plasmids in Micrococcus: Insights Into a Common Ancestor and Transfer by Conjugation

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2025.
Comparative analysis indicates a common ancestor for linear plasmids in Micrococcus strains from Andean Puna, suggesting that horizontal gene transfer helps native microbes survive extreme conditions. The successful transfer of pLMA1 by conjugation also shows its potential as a genetic vector.

A new plant genus and species from south‐eastern Spain: Castrila latens (Rubieae, Rubiaceae)

open access: yesTAXON, Volume 73, Issue 4, Page 1001-1015, August 2024.
Abstract A new genus and species, Castrila latens, native to the south‐eastern Iberian Peninsula, is described here for the first time and compared with its closest relatives. The plant is characterized by being annual, glabrous, having reduplicate leaves in whorls of (5)6–7, inflorescences capitate and involucrate, corolla shortly hypocrateriform and ...

Community engagement and power dynamics in conservation philanthropy grant making

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 38, Issue 4, August 2024.
Abstract Funding decisions influence where, how, and by whom conservation is pursued globally. In the context of growing calls for more participatory, Indigenous‐led, and socially just conservation, we undertook the first empirical investigation of how philanthropic foundations working in marine conservation globally engage communities in grant‐making ...

Effect of high hydrostatic pressure and thermal treatment on polyphenolic compounds and the antioxidant capacity of Phaseolus coccineus L.

open access: yesCereal Chemistry, Volume 101, Issue 4, Page 750-758, July/August 2024.
Abstract Background and Objectives High hydrostatic pressure (HHP) is a nonthermal technology that has been applied to several innovative food products, extending shelf life while preserving sensory characteristics and nutritional value. This technology is feasible to apply to legumes, like beans, to soften them and reduce preparation time ...

Ontogenetic and interelemental study of appendicular bones of Caiman latirostris Daudin, 1802 sheds light on osteohistological variability in crocodylians

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 285, Issue 4, April 2024.
This in‐depth investigation provides unprecedented insight into the kinds of bone tissues that Caiman latirostris deposits during growth. Microstructural variability is related to differences in the prevailing environment. Abstract The osteohistology of vertebrates provides a reliable source to deduce biological information, particularly regarding ...
