Titanium Coated with Graphene and Niobium Pentoxide for Biomaterial Applications

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomaterials, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Graphene and niobium oxide are used in biomaterial coatings. In this work, commercially pure titanium (cp Ti) was coated with graphene oxide (GO), niobium pentoxide (Nb2O5), and a mixture of both materials (NbGO) by the electrochemical deposition method. The surface morphology, roughness, wettability, and degradation of coated and uncoated samples were

Galvanic Corrosion of Ti Dental Implants Coupled to CoCrMo Prosthetic Component

open access: yesInternational Journal of Biomaterials, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Dental implant systems are composed of an implant, prosthetic components, and a crown. Since the implants are made of commercially pure Ti (cp Ti) and prosthetic components are often made of Ti and CoCrMo alloys, a galvanic couple between these two devices may lead to galvanic corrosion, ions release, and even loss of the implant.

A Prosthetic and Surgical Approach for Full‐Arch Rehabilitation in Atrophic Maxilla Previously Affected by Peri‐Implantitis

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, Volume 2021, Issue 1, 2021., 2021
Rehabilitation of atrophic maxilla with dental implants is still a challenge in clinical practice especially in cases of alveolar bone resorption due to peri‐implantitis and pneumatization of the maxillary sinuses. Several surgical approaches have been employed to reconstruct the lost tissues allowing the proper tridimensional position of the implants.

In Vitro Toxic Effect of Biomaterials Coated with Silver Tungstate or Silver Molybdate Microcrystals

open access: yesJournal of Nanomaterials, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Purpose. This study evaluated the cytotoxicity of antimicrobial silver tungstate (Ag2WO4) or silver molybdate (Ag2MoO4) microcrystals coating biomaterials. Materials and Methods. The coating procedure was performed onto titanium, zirconia, and acrylic resin specimens.

Splinted and Nonsplinted Crowns with Different Implant Lengths in the Posterior Maxilla by Three‐Dimensional Finite Element Analysis

open access: yesJournal of Healthcare Engineering, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
The aim of this study was to evaluate stress distribution in the implants/components and bone tissue for splinted and nonsplinted prostheses with different lengths of implants using three‐dimensional finite element analysis. Six models from the posterior maxillary area were used in simulations.

Periodontics, Implantology, and Prosthodontics Integrated: The Zenith‐Driven Rehabilitation

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
A customized treatment plan is important to reach results that will satisfy the patient providing esthetics, function, and long‐term stability. This type of oral rehabilitation requires professionals from different dental specialties where communication is a major key point.

Free Gingival Graft to Increase Keratinized Mucosa after Placing of Mandibular Fixed Implant‐Supported Prosthesis

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, Volume 2017, Issue 1, 2017., 2017
Insufficiently keratinized tissue can be increased surgically by free gingival grafting. The presence or reconstruction of keratinized mucosa around the implant can facilitate restorative procedure and allow the maintenance of an oral hygiene routine without irritation or discomfort to the patient. The aim of this clinical case report is to describe an

Three‐Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Anterior Single Implant‐Supported Prostheses with Different Bone Anchorages

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2015, Issue 1, 2015., 2015
The aim of this study was to evaluate the stress distribution of monocortical and bicortical implant placement of external hexagon connection in the anterior region of the maxilla by 3D finite element analysis (FEA). 3D models were simulated to represent a bone block of anterior region of the maxilla containing an implant (4.0 × 10.0 mm) and an implant‐

Bone‐Implant Contact around Crestal and Subcrestal Dental Implants Submitted to Immediate and Conventional Loading

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
The present study aims to evaluate the influence of apicocoronal position and immediate and conventional loading in the percentage of bone‐implant contact (BIC). Thus, 36 implants were inserted in the edentulous mandible from six dogs. Three implants were installed in each hemimandible, in different positions in relation to the ridge: Bone Level (at ...

Correction of Malpositioned Implants through Periodontal Surgery and Prosthetic Rehabilitation Using Angled Abutment

open access: yesCase Reports in Dentistry, Volume 2014, Issue 1, 2014., 2014
When dental implants are malpositioned in relation to the adjacent teeth and alveolar bone or in an excessive buccal or lingual position, the final prosthesis rehabilitation impairs the peri‐implant health of the gingival tissues and the aesthetics of the patient. Thus, the purpose of this case was to report and discuss a multidisciplinary protocol for
