The Ca2+ response of a smart forisome protein is dependent on polymerization. [PDF]
Abstract Forisomes are giant self‐assembling mechanoproteins that undergo reversible structural changes in response to Ca2+ and various other stimuli. Artificial forisomes assembled from the monomer MtSEO‐F1 can be used as smart biomaterials, but the molecular basis of their functionality is not understood.

The cis-prenyltransferase protein family in Taraxacum koksaghyz. [PDF]
Significance Statement The novelty of this work lies in the comprehensive description of cis‐prenyl transferases in the rubber‐producing plant Taraxacum koksaghyz. This provides valuable insights for breeding and rational protein design in heterologous systems.

Mugharet el'Aliya: Affinities of an enigmatic north African Aterian maxillary fragment
Abstract Objectives This study uses a virtual framework to examine the left maxillary fragment of the juvenile fossil from Mugharet el'Aliya, Morocco, found in association with an Aterian lithic industry. Previously, this fossil had been ascribed to modern humans or the Neanderthal lineage based on its “archaic”/“Neanderthal‐like” features and apparent

Activity of AC electrokinetically immobilized horseradish peroxidase
Abstract Dielectrophoresis (DEP) is an AC electrokinetic effect mainly used to manipulate cells. Smaller particles, like virions, antibodies, enzymes, and even dye molecules can be immobilized by DEP as well. In principle, it was shown that enzymes are active after immobilization by DEP, but no quantification of the retained activity was reported so ...

Bared‐teeth displays in bonobos (Pan paniscus): An assessment of the power asymmetry hypothesis
The use of bared‐teeth (BT) displays in adult and immature bonobos at Apenheul Primate Park, the Netherlands. While adult bonobos produced the BT exclusively in the sexual context, regardless of dominance rank, immature bonobos produced the BT in a wider number of contexts. Abstract Facial expressions are key to navigating social group life.

Maya Pottery Production at Nakum, Guatemala, during the Protoclassic Period (100/50 BC – AD 300/350)
This study investigates the Protoclassic ceramic production at Nakum, Guatemala, using it as a proxy to explore the nature of the transition from the Preclassic to Classic period (100/50 BC – AD 300/350) in Central Maya lowlands. Petrographic analysis reveals that household specialisation existed in the local production of slipped serving and ...

Decidability of theories of modules over tubular algebras
Abstract We show that the common theory of all modules over a tubular algebra (over a recursive algebraically closed field) is decidable. This result supports a long standing conjecture of Mike Prest which says that a finite‐dimensional algebra (over a suitably recursive field) is tame if and only if its common theory of modules is decidable (Prest ...

Abstract Efforts to name and classify Middle Pleistocene Homo, often referred to as “Homo heidelbergensis” are hampered by confusing patterns of morphology but also by conflicting paleoanthropological ideologies that are embedded in approaches to hominin taxonomy, nomenclature, and the species concept.

Relativistic Shock Acceleration: A Hartree-Fock Approach [PDF]
We examine the problem of particle acceleration at a relativistic shocks assuming pitch-angle scattering and using a Hartree-Fock method to approximate the associated eigenfunctions.

Does the Left Spend More? An Econometric Survey of Partisan Politics*
Abstract This study provides a quantitative review of the empirical literature on partisan politics. Given the voluminous work on this subject, we focus on the relationship between government ideology and public spending. By exploiting a dataset of 800 estimates from papers published between 1992 and 2018, we find no evidence of publication bias ...
