Golden‐Ratio–Guided Aperiodic Architected Metamaterials with Simultaneously Enhanced Strength and Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Guided by the golden ratio, a class of aperiodic architected metamaterials is introduced to address the intrinsic trade‐off between strength and toughness. By unifying local geometric heterogeneity with global order, the golden‐ratio‐guided aperiodic architecture promotes spatial delocalization of damage tolerence regions, leading to more tortuous ...

Improved modelling of a Prairie catchment using a progressive two-stage calibration strategy with in situ soil moisture and streamflow data

open access: yesHydrology Research, 2020
Dynamic contributing areas, various fill-and-spill mechanisms and cold-region processes make the hydrological modelling of the Prairies very challenging.

Low‐Temperature Fabrication of Thymosin β4‐Loaded Soluble Microneedles to Promote Wound Healing by Specific Binding to Downregulated Immune Regulators Vsig4 and IL22rɑ2

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram depicting the fabrication and application of thymosin β4 (Tβ4)‐loaded microneedle patches for wound treatment. The Tβ4 was loaded into chitosan (CS) and sucrose MNs under mild conditions (4°C, 65% relative humidity). The Tβ4 MN patch specifically binds to the downregulated immune regulators Vsig4 and IL22rα2, thereby accelerating ...

Bacterial Isolation from Natural Grassland on Nitrogen-Free Agar Yields Many Strains Without Nitrogenase

open access: yesMicroorganisms
Nitrogen inputs for sustainable crop production for a growing population require the enhancement of biological nitrogen fixation. Efforts to increase biological nitrogen fixation include bioprospecting for more effective nitrogen-fixing bacteria.

A Novel Retrovirus (Gunnison’s Prairie Dog Retrovirus) Associated With Thymic Lymphoma in Gunnison’s Prairie Dogs in Colorado, USA

open access: yesViruses, 2020
As part of research and wildlife disease surveillance efforts, we performed necropsy examinations of 125 free-ranging (n = 114) and captive (n = 11) prairie dogs in Colorado from 2009 to 2017.

Rupestonic Acid of Artemisia Rupestris L. Extract Treats Pulmonary Fibrosis in COPD by Targeting TGF‐β1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
RA of EEAR inhibits TGF‐β1 ubiquitination and changes conformation by target binding TGF‐β1, regulating TGF‐β1/Smad2/3 signaling pathway. Thus it down‐regulated downstream protein expression, inhibited EMT and collagen deposition of ECM, in order to EEAR preventing PF in COPD.

Markets Mitigate Land‐Use Competition From Energy Crops and Increase Farm Revenues

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Meeting the US Sustainable Aviation Fuel Grand Challenge target of 35 billion gal annually by 2050 will require an estimated 380 million–700 million dry tons of agricultural biomass feedstock. This study evaluates the implications of large‐scale biomass production for land use, crop production, and market outcomes under mature market ...
