A study of chevron type plate design on pressure drop and friction factor of brazed plate heat exchanger

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract Brazed plate heat exchanger (BPHE) was analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations by ANSYS Fluent to investigate the chevron‐patterned plates. The influence of geometric parameters, including corrugation pitch, depth, and angle was analyzed.

Flow Characteristics and Response Surface Methodology‐Based Pressure‐Loss Prediction Models for the Reverse Circulation Converter in Double‐Wall Drill Pipes

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Flow characteristics and pressure loss mechanisms of a reverse circulation converter in dual‐wall drill pipes are systematically investigated using CFD and response surface methodology. The results reveal the dominant role of inertial dissipation and provide a predictive framework for optimizing converter design and operational parameters. ABSTRACT The

A Numerical Investigation of the Effects of Piston Bowl Geometry and Spray Angle on Combustion, Performance and Emission of a Diesel Engine

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A piston bowl's design and spray angle improve air‐fuel mixing, resulting in more complete combustion and higher efficiency. Ansys Forte 2023 R1 a CFD software was used to analyze the effects of five combustion chamber geometries of cylinder, modified re‐entrant, re‐entrant, double‐stepped, and stepped on engine performance, combustion, and emission ...

Hydrogen‐Enriched Tri‐Fuel Combustion for Low‐Carbon Engines at Medium Engine Load: A Comprehensive CFD Analysis

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
CFD analysis of a diesel–CH4–H2 tri‐fuel engine shows that increasing hydrogen energy share (HES) enhances mixing and accelerates combustion, improving pressure, efficiency, and reducing CO and soot. At 60% HES, ISFC improves 26.2%, soot drops 95%, while NOx increases due to higher temperatures. ABSTRACT The global commitment to achieve net‐zero carbon

Stellar convection as a low Prandtl number flow [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1991
AbstractThermal convection in the Sun and cool stars is often modeled with the assumption of an effective Prandtl number σ ≃ 1. Such a parameterization results in masking of the presence of internal shear layers which, for small σ, might control the large scale dynamics.

Zero Prandtl-number rotating magnetoconvection [PDF]

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2017
We investigate instabilities and chaos near the onset of Rayleigh-Bénard convection of electrically conducting fluids with free-slip, perfectly electrically and thermally conducting boundary conditions in the presence of uniform rotation about the vertical axis and horizontal external magnetic field by considering zero Prandtl-number limit (Pr → 0 ...

Forced Draught Impact on Externally Venting Flames: An Experimental and Numerical Investigation

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wind can significantly influence fire development and spread in urban and forest environments causing fatal consequences for the public, the first responders, and the environment. Wind‐driven fires can have a significant impact on structural fires as wind can increase the fire's intensity, development, and flame spread.

Natural convection in a square Cavity: Effects of Rayleigh and Prandtl numbers on heat transfer and flow patterns

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
Natural convection within enclosures plays a crucial role in heat transfer across various thermal systems. This study presents a validated numerical benchmark for buoyancy-driven flow in a square cavity with differential heating, focusing solely on the ...
