Glazing Effects on Dynamic‐Insulation TSC Façades: A CFD‐Supported Experimental Study of Flow, Heat Transfer, and Ventilation Preheating

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
Glazed transpired solar collectors achieve 48–75% efficiency and 11% more seasonal heat than unglazed designs by cutting convective losses, while both offer complementary benefits for ventilation preheating and dynamic wall insulation, with paybacks of 5.5–6.8 years.

Stellar convection as a low Prandtl number flow [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Astronomical Union Colloquium, 1991
AbstractThermal convection in the Sun and cool stars is often modeled with the assumption of an effective Prandtl number σ ≃ 1. Such a parameterization results in masking of the presence of internal shear layers which, for small σ, might control the large scale dynamics.

Comparative Analysis of Al2O3/Water–TiO2/Chlorophyll Hybrid Nanofluids in a Photovoltaic–Thermal Solar Water Heating System

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
TiO2/chlorophyll bio‐hybrid nanofluid achieved the highest PVT performance, increasing thermal efficiency to 38.74% and overall efficiency to 51.35%, compared with 35.96% and 48.45% for Al2O3/water and 27.77% and 40.18% for water. The results demonstrate the potential of bio‐hybrid nanofluids for high‐efficiency solar thermal energy conversion ...

Convergence and Residual Error Analysis of Unsteady MHD Stagnation Flow Over a Cylindrical Surface With Streamline and Isotherm Visualization

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
The novelty of the current study is that the unsteady MHD Cross nanofluid model is, for the first time, coupled with the melting heat transfer at the stagnation point over a horizontally extended cylinder in a Darcy–Forchheimer porous medium. This work connects complex rheological behaviors and phase‐change phenomena in a unique way, with the only ...

An Experimental Study of Thermal Energy Storage With Phase‐Change Material in a Rectangular Box Filled With Aluminum Foam

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
We experimentally evaluate a rectangular latent‐heat thermal energy storage box filled with paraffin RT57. Embedding 1–3 aluminum‐foam pieces (ε ≈ 0.89 and 10 PPI) increases effective thermal conductivity, making the temperature field more uniform and accelerating phase change.

Discussion of Polyethylene Glycol Mixtures and PEG + MWCNT Nanocolloids’ Behavior in Thermal Applications

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Nanocolloids are nanoparticles suspended in fluids with the aim of improving fluid capability at heat transfer, with a focus on thermal conductivity. The major advantage is the increase in thermal conductivity, with a certain influence on isobaric heat ...

The anisotropy of low prandtl number turbulent convection [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical & Astrophysical Fluid Dynamics, 1992
A model for homogeneous anisotropic incompressible turbulence is proposed. The model generalizes the GISS model of homogeneous isotropic turbulence; the generalization involves the solution of the GISS equations along a set of integration paths in wavenumber (k-) space.

Forced Draught Impact on Externally Venting Flames: An Experimental and Numerical Investigation

open access: yesFire and Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Wind can significantly influence fire development and spread in urban and forest environments causing fatal consequences for the public, the first responders, and the environment. Wind‐driven fires can have a significant impact on structural fires as wind can increase the fire's intensity, development, and flame spread.
