From boom to gloom: Brazilian labour productivity in manufacturing relative to the United States, 1912–2019

open access: yesThe Economic History Review, Volume 76, Issue 4, Page 1110-1140, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Whereas manufacturing seems to hold the key to modern economic growth, the role of manufacturing in economy‐wide convergence across countries is debatable. One strand of scholarship argues that productivity levels in manufacturing tend to remain stable across countries, and that economy‐wide convergence takes place through structural ...

Soft tissues influence nasal airflow in diapsids: Implications for dinosaurs

open access: yesJournal of Morphology, Volume 284, Issue 9, September 2023., 2023
Bony‐bounded airway of the theropod, Majungasaurus, showing multiple regions of the nasal passage where comparative CFD studies can reliably infear soft‐tissue locations. Abstract The nasal passage performs multiple functions in amniotes, including olfaction and thermoregulation.

Large‐scale impacts of selective logging on canopy tree beta‐diversity in the Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, Volume 60, Issue 6, Page 1181-1193, June 2023., 2023
Minimal impacts on tree beta‐diversity across large spatial scales points towards the retention of substantial conservation value in logged tropical forests. Strong subtractive heterogenization in very large trees indicates the breakdown of broad scale patterns of composition with potential negative consequences for recruitment processes, fauna reliant

Evaluation of strategies to optimize training populations for genomic prediction in oat (Avena sativa)

open access: yesPlant Breeding, Volume 142, Issue 1, Page 41-53, February 2023., 2023
Abstract Genomic selection is a promising breeding methodology that could increase selection accuracy and intensity and reduce generation interval. As the cost of genotyping decreases, it will be important to optimize training populations for costly phenotypic experiments for many complex traits.

Septal deviation in the nose of the longest faced crocodylian: A description of nasal anatomy and airflow in the Indian gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) with comments on acoustics

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, Volume 305, Issue 10, Page 2883-2903, October 2022., 2022
Abstract The remarkably thin rostrum in the Indian gharial (Gavialis gangeticus) imparts challenges to nasal physiology. Competition for space in the slim jaws necessitates a thin nasal septum, leaving this taxon susceptible to nasal passage abnormalities such as septal deviation.
