Environmental and Spatial Variables Influencing Contaminants of Emerging Concern in Watersheds Across Central NY

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
This manuscript explores empirical linkages between a suite of concentrations of chemicals of emerging concern (CEC) and hydroclimatological and spatial watershed characteristics. Our analysis was carried out at the regional scale allowing us to explore how complex patterns of land use relate to CEC concentrations.

Invasive plant species for compost production: Review of environmental and economic insights

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 55, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
Abstract Invasive plant species pose significant ecological and economic challenges, threatening biodiversity and altering soil properties, while conventional control methods are often costly and resource‐intensive. This review examines the potential of composting invasive plant biomass as a viable and sustainable alternative that aligns with circular ...

Mapping the flow of conservation information across Wisconsin farming communities: Evidence from a social network analysis

open access: yesPeople and Nature, Volume 8, Issue 7, Page 2304-2316, July 2026.
Abstract Adoption of conservation practices in US agriculture remains limited despite demonstrated environmental and social benefits. Farmer demonstration programmes aim to accelerate conservation adoption by leveraging peer‐to‐peer learning, yet there are unresolved questions about how conservation information moves through farming communities.

State-Contingent Demand for Herbicide-Tolerance Seed Trait [PDF]

open access: yes
Suppose a farmer had to apply a herbicide pre-emergence or not at all. The advent of a herbicide-tolerance trait innovation then provides the option to wait for more information before making a state-contingent post-emergence application.

Investigating the cost of adaptation in Amaranthus tuberculatus populations with evolved resistance to glyphosate [PDF]

open access: yes
Amaranthus tuberculatus (Common Waterhemp) is a prevalent, problematic weed in Midwestern USA, where genetically-modified crops are widely grown, resulting in multiple annual applications of glyphosate.

Combination of Pre-emergence Herbicides for Weed Control in Soybean

open access: yesInternational Journal of Agriculture and Biology
Pre-emergence herbicides supress weeds in soybean, enabling the crop to stablish without competition. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the selectivity of pre-emergence herbicide combinations in soybean and their effectiveness in controlling weed species.

Non‐triazine photosystem II inhibitors provide effective control of metabolic atrazine‐resistant Amaranthus tuberculatus

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 7, Page 6864-6876, July 2026.
Metabolism‐based atrazine‐resistant Amaranthus tuberculatus populations ACR and MCR exhibit little or no cross‐resistance to amicarbazone and metribuzin, suggesting that non‐halogenated Group 5 herbicides can be utilized to re‐establish effective control.
