No Cocoa Without Deforestation? A Field‐Type Analysis of Forest Frontiers in West Africa

ABSTRACT This paper analyses the interrelations of production systems, class relations and deforestation in a smallholder forest frontier. Using the concept of field types, we provide a plot‐level analysis of deforestation processes in West Africa, where smallholders convert forest into cocoa farms.

The chemical control of weeds stands out as an important tool for obtaining high yields in cassava crops. This study aimed at evaluating the selectivity and efficiency of pre-emergent herbicides on cassava (‘Cascuda’ cultivar) crop. The experimental design was randomized blocks, with ten treatments and four replications.
