Pre‐tensioning for Preventing Fatigue Failure in Bolts

Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1952
The prevention of fatigue in bolts by controlled pre‐tensioning is investigated theoretically. It is shown that the effect of pre‐tension is to reduce the alternating load in the bolt and that the stiffness of the fitting plays an important part in this reduction. Fatigue tests on ¾‐in. B.S.F.

Pre-tensioning of fabrics in cement-based composites

Cement and Concrete Research, 2007
This paper studies the effects induced by applying a pre-tension load during the production of fabric–cement composites. The flexural behavior as well as the bonding between the different fabrics and the cement matrix was examined, as a means for characterizing the processing parameters.

RC column strengthening by lateral pre-tensioning of FRP [PDF]

open access: yesConstruction and Building Materials, 2003
This paper presents a unique strengthening technique for existing concrete columns that use expansive materials to apply lateral pre-tensioning. The technique increases the capacity and ductility of a column as well as achieving better utilisation of the

Pre‐Tensioned and Posttensioned Composite Girders

Journal of Structural Engineering, 1989
This paper deals with the analytical and experimental study of prestressed composite (steel girder with concrete slab) girders. The analysis is done for the case of simply supported bridge girder, using tendon configuration of straight, bent up, and short straight. In the development of the analytical expressions, a perfect shear connection between the

On the Construction of Pre-tensioned Hollow Beams

2011 Second International Conference on Digital Manufacturing & Automation, 2011
The construction of Hollow beams pre-tensioned is common in the construction of the bridge construction project, because it has a larger span, the characteristics of can be prefabricated, it has great promotional value. This article according to Beijing-Zhuhai Expressway Extension Project in the instance of bridge construction, respectively from the ...

Experimental investigation of the pre-tension effects on the modal parameters of a slender pre-tensioned concrete beam

2011
Slender pre-tensioned concrete structures are nowadays of common use, due to their unique features. Slender beam can be used to sustain large structures and important loads leaving the architects a lot possibilities in the structure design. The health of such structures is strictly related to the conditions of the tendon that, in many cases, are not ...
