Coordinating Mesopore Geometry and Interfacial Water Dynamics for Iron‐Site Evolution in Nitrate Electroreduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Mesopore geometry programs the working‐state interface of Fe single sites during nitrate electroreduction. Hexagonal channels reorganize interfacial water and accompany the reversible evolution of isolated Fe─O4‐like sites toward Fe─O─Fe‐like motifs, promoting successive hydrogenation toward NH3 with a Faradaic efficiency of 99.1%.

Dual d–p hybridization in Ternary PtGaGe Enables Concurrent Activity and Stability Enhancement for Alkaline Oxygen Reduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A unique dual d–p orbital hybridization strategy was established in a ternary PtGaGe alloy catalyst to overcome the longstanding activity–stability trade‐off in oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Synergistic hybridization between Ga/Ge p orbitals and Pt d orbitals modulates the Pt electronic structure, optimizes oxygen intermediates adsorption, and ...

Polypyridyl Coordination Motifs as Precursors for Ordered Carbonaceous Frameworks Toward High‐Density Ru Single‐Atom Catalysts

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Here, we introduce a molecular design principle that fundamentally expands the bottom‐up synthesis of single‐atom catalysts (SACs). Coordinatively flexible polypyridyl units enable bottom‐up formation of ordered carbonaceous frameworks containing atomically dispersed Ru (∼11 wt%) by simple carbonization.

Conformationally Switchable Copper(I) Complexes Amplify BODIPY Triplet Photosensitization

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Coupling a structurally switchable Cu(I) complex to an organic light‐harvesting chromophore boosts photoinduced intersystem crossing via the transient formation of a Cu(II) intermediate. Spectroscopic, physical, computational, and photocatalytic studies support this unique new approach to solar energy upconversion.

A Conserved Isoleucine Gates the Diffusion of CO and O2 to the Active Site of NiFe CO‐Dehydrogenase

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
A combination of protein film electrochemistry and site‐directed mutagenesis shows that isoleucine 563 (numbering of Thermococcus sp. AM4) gates the arrival of both CO and O2 to the active site of the nickel‐iron CO dehydrogenases. Mutations at this position increase the resistance to O2 at the cost of a slower reaction with CO.

Maximizing Active Site Density in Tin Single‐Site Catalysts for Selective Carbon Dioxide to Formate Electroreduction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
High‐loading tin single‐site catalysts (>7.5 wt.% Sn) are synthesized using a nitrogen‐enriched carbon scaffold and mechanochemically assisted pyrolysis to stabilize atomically dispersed Sn. The resulting Sn/N‐C‐M catalyst enables highly selective CO2‐to‐formate conversion (>90% FE across 50–500 mA cm−2) with long‐term durability and operando‐verified ...
