Dislocation assisted coarsening of coherent precipitates: a phase field study [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Coarsening of precipitates in coherent systems is influenced by the elastic fields of the precipitates and the interfacial curvature. It is also known that if precipitates are connected by dislocations, coarsening is affected by the elastic fields of the dislocations and the pipe diffusivity.

Development of Ternary Magnesium Alloys for Laser Powder Bed Fusion: Optimizing Oxide Layer Thickness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing of magnesium alloys by laser is difficult because the melting point of the oxide layer is much higher than the evaporation temperature of the metal underneath. Making the oxide layer thinner can solve this problem. Alloying magnesium with strontium makes the oxide layer thinner, especially at 0.5 wt%.

Using Long Short-term Memory (LSTM) to merge precipitation data over mountainous area in Sierra Nevada [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Obtaining reliable precipitation estimation with high resolutions in time and space is of great importance to hydrological studies. However, accurately estimating precipitation is a challenging task over high mountainous complex terrain. The three widely used precipitation measurement approaches, namely rainfall gauge, precipitation radars, and ...

Impacts of Reference Precipitation on the Assessment of Global Precipitation Measurement Precipitation Products

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Reference precipitation (RP) serves as a benchmark for evaluating the accuracy of precipitation products; thus, the selection of RP considerably affects the evaluation. In order to quantify this impact and provide guidance for RP selection, three interpolation methods, namely inverse distance weighting (IDW), ordinary kriging (OK), and geographical ...

Determining the Necessity of Post‐Processing Heat Treatment for the 316L Stainless Steel Manufactured by Laser Powder Bed Fusion through Evaluation of Mechanical and Corrosion Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article examines the effect of postprocessing heat treatment on 316L stainless steel (SS316L) produced via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). Heat treatment slightly affects property anisotropy, reduces strength, and enhances elongation. However, it increases corrosion susceptibility due to nanoscale precipitations, though overall corrosion ...

A Multi-Site Stochastic Weather Generator for High-Frequency Precipitation Using Censored Skew-Symmetric Distribution [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Stochastic weather generators (SWGs) are digital twins of complex weather processes and widely used in agriculture and urban design. Due to improved measuring instruments, an accurate SWG for high-frequency precipitation is now possible. However, high-frequency precipitation data are more zero-inflated, skewed, and heavy-tailed than common (hourly or ...
