Brief communication: Sharp precipitation gradient on the southern edge of the Tibetan Plateau during cold season [PDF]

open access: yesThe Cryosphere
The Tibetan Plateau is a high-altitude arid region, where limited in-situ precipitation measurements are available. In this communication, we document a strong precipitation gradient at the southern edge of the Paiku Co catchment (southern Tibetan ...

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Tuning the Optoelectronic Properties of Wide Bandgap Perovskites: Data‐Driven Insights from Combinatorial Synthesis and High‐Throughput Experimentation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Combinatorial vapor deposition enables independent tuning of Cs/Pb and Br/Cl in wide‐bandgap perovskites. Automated multimodal mapping of 500+ compositions reveals a high‐energy optical transition that correlates with enhanced photoluminescence, defining a practical Cs/Pb window.

Plant community micronutrients mediate the soil carbon stock by altering plant growth, reproduction and survival trade-offs

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture
Despite the essential role of micronutrients in plant metabolic processes and carbon cycle, the mechanisms by which micronutrients regulate plant community traits remain poorly understood.

Biomineral‐Inspired Organic/Inorganic Colloidal Liquid‐Crystalline Hybrids for Photoresponsive Adhesion

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A new class of photoresponsive liquid‐crystalline (LC) adhesives based on biomineral‐inspired organic/inorganic colloidal hybrids is reported. These colloidal LC materials are formed by hybridization of a hydroxyapatite nanorod with azobenzene‐based forklike molecules.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient

Chitin‐Derived Carbon‐Metal Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Functional carbon materials are synthesized from combination of biopolymer (chitin) and iron precursors. The resultant material exhibits superior surface area and adsorptive properties compared to carbon materials synthesized directly from pure chitin.
