A piecewise deterministic model for a prey-predator community [PDF]

open access: yesAnn. Appl. Probab., Volume 26, Number 6 (2016), 3491-3530, 2015
We are interested in prey-predator communities where the predator population evolves much faster than the prey's (e.g. insect-tree communities). We introduce a piecewise deterministic model for these prey-predator communities that arises as a limit of a microscopic model when the number of predators goes to infinity.

FMint: Bridging Human Designed and Data Pretrained Models for Differential Equation Foundation Model for Dynamical Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Theory and Simulations, EarlyView.
FMint is introduced as a multi‐modal foundation model that integrates human‐designed solvers and data‐driven methods for fast, accurate simulation of dynamical systems. FMint leverages in‐context learning within a transformer‐based framework to refine coarse numerical solutions.

Predation risk drives social complexity in cooperative breeders

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2016
Significance It is widely accepted that high predation risk may select for group living, but predation is not regarded as a primary driver of social complexity.

Shared predation: positive effects of predator distraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
AbstractSimple rules based on population equilibria can characterize indirect interactions in three-species systems but fail to predict them when considering behavioral mechanisms. In this paper, we revisit the effects of shared predation,i.e. the situation in which two prey are consumed by a common predator.

Altered Brain‐Behavior Association During Resting State is a Potential Psychosis Risk Marker

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study detects a potential multimodal biomarker that can be promising for identifying early markers of psychosis. It shows a consistent brain‐behavior association between a circuit of interconnected regions and executive function in neurotypical controls and individuals at various stages of psychosis.

Nest predation pressure on Chinese Bulbuls decreases along the urbanization gradient in Hangzhou, China

open access: yesAvian Research, 2022
Nest predation is an essential factor affecting bird population density, reproductive ecology and life cycle. However, there are still contradictory results about how nest predation pressure changes with urbanization.

Adult mosquito predation and potential impact on the sterile insect technique

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
The sterile insect technique is a promising environmentally friendly method for mosquito control. This technique involves releasing laboratory-produced sterile males into a target field site, and its effectiveness may be affected by the extent of adult ...

Parental Investment Under Predation Threat in Incubating Common Eiders (Somateria mollissima): A Hormonal Perspective

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2021
Predation risk affects the costs and benefits of prey life-history decisions. Predation threat is often higher during reproduction, especially in conspicuous colonial breeders.

On the evolutionary emergence of predation [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
In models for the evolution of predation from initially purely competitive species interactions, the propensity of predation is most often assumed to be a direct consequence of the relative morphological and physiological traits of interacting species.

A Bias‐Tunable Multispectral Photodetector Based on a GaN/TexSe1‐x Homo‐Type Heterojunction with a Unidirectional Barrier

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A bias‐tunable multispectral photodetector based on a TexSe1‐x/GaN homo‐type heterojunction with a unidirectional barrier is proposed. By modulating the bias polarity and magnitude, the device's spectral response range can be extended from UV to the SWIR region.
