Leaf morpho‐anatomical traits as bottom‐up modulators of plant–arthropod interactions: a meta‐analytic synthesis

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Leaf morpho‐anatomical traits act as context‐dependent structural defenses, modulating herbivore preference, feeding, survival, development, and reproduction through complex interactions shaped by plant traits and herbivore functional groups. Abstract BACKGROUND Morpho‐anatomical leaf traits play a central role in the bottom‐up modulation of plant ...

Bioactivity profiling of linear venom peptides from Italian small wood‐scorpion (Euscorpius italicus)

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Functional screening pipeline of venom peptides from Euscorpius italicus reveal their activity towards globally important pest insects, bacteria, and cells – providing insight on the potential and function of arachnid venom peptides. Abstract BACKGROUND Rising host‐expansion and the global spread of pest insects, confront agricultural sectors with ...

The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) as an ally for the control of the invasive yellow‐legged hornet (Vespa velutina nigrithorax)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2237-2247, April 2025.
The predatory effect of the honey‐buzzard affects the reproductive performance of Asian‐hornet colonies, decreasing the density of workers over distance and time. The foraging distances of the honey‐buzzard concentrates within the first 2000 m from nest, which supports the results observed.

Effects of timed LED regimes on tomato plant traits, performance of two‐spotted spider mites, and predatory mites (Phytoseiulus persimilis)

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 4, Page 2300-2311, April 2025.
Light‐emitting diode (LED)‐based treatments for enhancing crop production and pest management have primarily focused on continuous treatments. This study, using Tetranychus urticae and Phytoseiulus persimilis, demonstrates that the timing of LED supplementation is crucial for designing integrated pest management strategies that improve both plant ...

Low‐order system for eddy growth in the storm track

open access: yesQuarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society, EarlyView.
Reanalysis data for the North Atlantic storm track are used to construct a low‐order model that optimally fits the observed interaction between the mean flow and baroclinic eddies. The resulting model is a certain type of predator–prey model. It explains various properties of the storm track, including why eddies grow linearly with the Eady growth rate,

Biomimetic robots driven by smart materials: Motion forms, stimulation methods and applications

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
Biomimetic robots enhance adaptability by mimicking biological systems, but rigid materials limit performance. Smart materials with stimuli responsiveness and shape adaptability enable more flexible actuation and improved environmental interaction.
