PREDATOR–PREY DYNAMICS WITH SEASONAL WATER-LEVEL FLUCTUATIONS

Journal of Biological Systems, 2018
Water level in rivers, lakes and reservoirs has great influence on the interactions between prey and predator fish. Indeed, the increase of the water volume hinders the capture of the prey by the predator. The same reasoning applies when there is a decrease in the volume of water, favoring the capture of the prey by the predator.

Unusual predator–prey dynamics under reciprocal phenotypic plasticity

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 2012
Recent theories and experiments have shown that plasticity, such as an inducible defense or an inducible offense in predator-prey interactions, strongly influences the stability of the population dynamics. However, such plastic adaptation has not been expected to cause unusual dynamics such as antiphase cycles, which occur in experimental predator-prey

Predator‐Prey Dynamics and Movement in Fractal Environments

The American Naturalist, 2002
Previous research suggests that local interactions and limited animal mobility can affect population dynamics. However, the spatial structure of the environment can further limit the mobility of animals. For example, an animal confined to a river valley or to a particular plant cannot move with equal ease in all directions.

EMPIRICAL EVIDENCE FOR PREDATOR–PREY SOURCE–SINK DYNAMICS

Ecology, 2000
Theory suggests that a source–sink structure for a prey species can promote the persistence of an otherwise nonpersisting predator–prey interaction. Using a heliozoan protist predator, Actinosphaerium nucleofilum, and a ciliated protozoan prey species, Tetrahymena pyriformis, we tested this prediction in laboratory microcosms.
