Metal Accumulation, Liver Histopathology, and Human Health Risk Assessment Across Different Trophic Guilds in a Mining‐Affected Neotropical River

open access: yesJournal of Applied Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metal pollution in aquatic environments represents a recurring global concern; however, traditional paradigms often assume linear bioaccumulation patterns that may fail under catastrophic contamination scenarios. This study evaluated metal concentrations in water, sediment, and tissues of 10 fish species from different trophic guilds in the ...

Integrating behavioral dynamics and allee effect in eco-epidemiological model: A comprehensive approach to disease impact.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Predator-prey models in ecology typically focus on direct predation without considering other interactions, such as hunting behaviors on qualitative impact and numerous diseases, which has led researchers to explore the intersection of ecology and ...

Identifiable regional and neural network abnormalities in early childhood anxiety

open access: yesJCPP Advances, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Although the neural underpinnings of anxiety have been investigated, most research has been confined to adolescence and adulthood, with less of a focus on the early childhood period. Little is known about the role of anticipatory fear processing early childhood, which is a sensitive period for anxiety development.

Urbanization Impacts Top Predators and Alters Biotic Interactions in Predator–Prey–Mutualistic Communities of Urban Dry Grasslands

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Urbanization as a major driver of global change modifies biodiversity patterns and the abundance and interactions among species or functional species groups. For example, urbanization can negatively impact both predator–prey and mutualistic relationships.

From nature to nanoscale: advances, challenges, and preclinical translation of nanofiber drug delivery systems containing plant‐derived active ingredients

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract Since the early 1960s, nanotechnology has been a critical area of science, allowing for the development of sophisticated nanomaterials. Nanofibers, one of the most widely used nanotechnological drug delivery systems, have emerged as a highly versatile platform within modern pharmaceutical sciences.

Living on the edge: Habitat characteristics of northern myotis at the periphery of its distribution

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Northern myotis selected tall trees with minimal decay, in patches with other roosting options. In our study area, these trees occurred in narrow bands within an agricultural matrix, differing from contiguous forest at the core of the species' distribution. Nevertheless, bats selected the tallest trees in the densest patches available.

Cutting through the noise: What can habitat selection modeling teach us about caribou‐fire space use dynamics?

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We synthesize the current knowledge regarding caribou habitat selection in relation to wildfires. Caribou responses to recent burns were generally weak and highly variable across subspecies or ecotypes, suggesting that post‐fire habitat selection is likely context‐dependent and the need for regionally adapted habitat management strategies.

Modeling effects of environmental conditions and hunter activity on Montezuma quail harvest in Arizona

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Models of spatiotemporal variation in hunter harvest show that monsoon precipitation and changes in hunter behavior and composition are the primary drivers underlying variation in annual harvest of Montezuma quail. The demographic structure of the previous year's harvest was also strongly associated with the magnitude and rate of annual harvest ...

Predator-associated cues modify prey behaviour but not predator encounter dynamics in Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae)

open access: yesPersian Journal of Acarology
Predator-associated cues can induce behavioural and life-history changes in prey without direct predator–prey interactions, yet whether these responses reduce subsequent predation risk remains poorly understood.
