Predator-Prey Interactions in Continuous Culture
Science, 1973The exploitation of a bacterial food supply by a protozoan predator does not necessarily lead to the extinction of either species. Even a "homogeneous" experimental system contains sufficient heterogeneity (the boundaries) for avoidance strategies to evolve, which allow the populations to persist.

Predator-prey interactions play a central role in the behavior, ecology, and population biology of most taxa and are critical in community dynamics. For elasmobranchs, most studies focus only on their role as a predator. This is an important oversight, because most species are both predator and prey, at least for periods of their life.

Predator-prey interactions between ectoparasites
Parasitology Today, 1987Vertebrates represent a resource frequently exploited by ectoparasites. But the ectoporosites themselves also represent a resource that can be exploited by specialized predators. Some o f these predators have been classified as ectoparasites, but in some cases the vertebrate blood in their crops comes from their blood-sucking prey.

Predator prey interactions with time delays
Journal of Mathematical Biology, 1976A general (Volterra-Lotka type) integrodifferential system which describes a predator-prey interaction subject to delay effects is considered. A rather complete picture is drawn of certain qualitative aspects of the solutions as they are functions of the parameters in the system.

Several long-term data sets have been collected of predator and prey in natural systems with the interaction between lynx, Lynx canadensis, and its prey, snowshoe hare, Lepus americanus (MacLulick, 1937), providing some of the best long-term data, as illustrated in Figure 8.1.

A nonlocal swarm model for predators–prey interactions
Mathematical Models and Methods in Applied Sciences, 2015We consider a two-species system of nonlocal interaction PDEs modeling the swarming dynamics of predators and prey, in which all agents interact through attractive/repulsive forces of gradient type. In order to model the predator–prey interaction, we prescribed proportional potentials (with opposite signs) for the cross-interaction part. The model has

Predator-Prey Interactions of Dytiscids
2014As conspicuous predators throughout ontogeny, dytiscids are central to freshwater food webs, particularly in lentic systems such as wetlands and ponds. Adult and larval dytiscids are considered to be generalists, feeding on zooplankton, aquatic invertebrates, larval amphibians, and fish, but some dytiscid species selectively feed on certain prey types ...

Age structure effects in predator-prey interactions
Theoretical Population Biology, 1976Abstract A mathematical model of predator-prey interactions is proposed which incorporates both age structure in the predators and density dependence in the prey. The properties of the model are investigated by a linearized analysis, which enables the conditions for stability to be formulated.

The fundamentals of predator–prey interactions
2019Abstract This chapter introduces the concept of the consumer-resource link, the idea that each species in a community consumes resources and is itself consumed by other species. The consumer–resource link is the fundamental building block from which more-complex food chains and food webs are constructed.

Vertebrate Predator—Prey Interactions in a Seasonal Environment
2008Publisher Summary This chapter describes and analyzes the predator–prey dynamics representative of the terrestrial ecosystem in Zackenbergdalen. By using comprehensive, temporally replicated data on the collared lemming and its predators, the chapter focuses on the predator–lemming dynamics embracing a period of 10 years.
