The Impact of Predator Attack Behaviour on Interactions in TwoPrey and One-Predator Systems

open access: yesMathematical Sciences and Informatics Journal
This research explores a three-species model of prey and predator interactions, which includes primary and secondary prey and a predator. The main concern is the potential disturbance caused by uncontrolled predator attacks, which can harm the

Bacterial Geosmin Biosynthesis is Compartmentalized Inside a Two‐Component Protein Shell

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reports the discovery that geosmin biosynthesis is compartmentalized inside a two‐component protein shell in many bacteria. Sequestration of geosmin synthase inside a Family 2B encapsulin nanocompartment improves geosmin yield and increases enzyme stability as compared to the free enzyme.

Revealing Hidden Raman Signatures Through Attention‐Based Spectral Unmixing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Weak Raman signatures are recovered from background‐dominated spectra using a transformer‐based, reference‐free spectral unmixing AI framework. Self‐attention reconstructs substrate contribution directly from mixed data, enabling reliable extraction of previously inaccessible vibrational features.

The architecture of predator-prey and the relationship between complexity and stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Theoretical studies predict that the stability of an ecosystem is negatively correlated with its complexity, measured by the number of interacting species. On the other hand, empirical evidence indicates that food webs are highly interconnected.

Meta-analysis of the effects of predation on animal prey abundance: evidence from UK vertebrates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background: Controlling vertebrate predators is one of the most widespread forms of wildlife management and it continues to cause conflict between stakeholders worldwide. It is important for managers and policy-makers to make decisions on this issue that

Origin, evolution and biogeographic dynamics of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus) in Southwestern Europe

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The Pleistocene is a key period for understanding the evolutionary history and palaeobiogeography of the European rabbit (Oryctolagus cuniculus). The species was first documented in southeastern Iberia at the beginning of the Middle Pleistocene and appears to have rapidly spread throughout Southwestern Europe, where it was found in numerous ...

Hepatic morphology and serum biochemical profile according to dry and rainy seasons in Pygocentrus nattereri (Characiformes: Serrasalmidae)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract This study investigated the physiological and morphological adaptations of the liver of the carnivorous fish Pygocentrus nattereri (piranha) in response to seasonal variations (dry and rainy seasons) in the Brazilian Pantanal. The objective was to describe how the liver, a central organ in metabolic regulation, responds to environmental ...

Effects of Behavioral Tactics of Predators on Dynamics of a Predator-Prey System

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2014
A predator-prey model incorporating individual behavior is presented, where the predator-prey interaction is described by a classical Lotka-Volterra model with self-limiting prey; predators can use the behavioral tactics of rock-paper-scissors to dispute

Evolutionary radiation of large‐bodied gorgonopsians from the lower Abrahamskraal formation of South Africa

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The middle Permian represents a critical interval in therapsid evolution, when gorgonopsians emerged as some of the first specialized apex predators within terrestrial ecosystems. Despite their significance, the early diversification of Gorgonopsia in Gondwana remains poorly understood due to scarcity and fragmentary material.
