Species traits mediate terrestrial mammal density responses to human impacts

open access: yesEcography, EarlyView.
Human activities are reshaping ecosystems, but their effects on species population density remain poorly understood. Most studies focus on species presence–absence, thus limiting insight into how anthropogenic pressures affect population density. Emerging evidence suggests that responses of natural populations to human disturbance are highly variable ...

Techno‐Economic Assessment of Large‐Scale Renewable Energy Systems: A Case Study in the Gulf Cooperation Council

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
A consistent 3 GW hybrid solar–wind configuration was assessed across five GCC locations, revealing substantial regional differences in energy yield and economic performance. Saudi Arabia and Oman achieved the highest generation and lowest LCOE, while the systems delivered substantial CO2 emission reductions across the region.

Must Longtermists Wish Us All Dead? A Quadrilemma

open access: yesJournal of Applied Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Longtermists assign great moral importance to making the long‐term future as good as possible, especially by ensuring the survival of humanity. We argue, to the contrary, that on assumptions that are plausible, conservative, or shared by leading longtermists, human extinction will likely augment total utility among human and non‐human animals ...
